Is USPS completely incompetent now?

I don't intend to put all of the employees in the same basket. I'm sure there are still some "good ones" in the mix, but seems to be way more bad ones than there used to be.
Where I live, USPS either closed or repurposed a processing facility 10 miles away and moved it to neighboring state. All mail now goes about 300 to 400 miles east of us for processing before coming back to where we live.

A member here posted he was a postal inspector and theft was more common than you might expect.
In certain regional stations it's rampant
They know. They know cash and the know Small FRBs are a "gold mine".

Chicago metro area. I did go on the USPS site to report the theft, hopefully they looked into this.

Some of the folks I talked to during this process wanted to point to the cards being stolen from my box.
That didn't happen - I knew for a fact.
Post Office closed all regional sorting facilities in Virginia,
all mail in Virginia is trucked to Sandston, outside Richmond, sorted, then trucked back.
Only problem is they can’t handle the load, so mail gets pushed aside, then forgotten…
They also don’t clean behind and inside the machines nearly as often…
Just got a mangled letter, mailed October 2025, and received July 2026…

The frustrating thing is that they're very hit/miss. I've had items delivered to me that were badly mis-addressed, and yet they made it in almost normal time, but when they miss, they miss big.
I posted recently on another thread that my Mom's neighbors, I mean right next door neighbors, mailed her an Easter Card. It was postmarked March 30. It was finally in her mailbox the first week of June. The envelope was in excellent shape so it's not like it got caught in a machine or something. I hope it enjoyed the sights from where ever it traveled for those 2 months.
Personally, I have 2 checks from late last year that were destined for Carol Stream, IL, aka the great lockbox/financial processing hub a lot of credit cards use, that *still* have not made it there.

I no longer send brightly colored birthday cards in the mail. It haven't happened to me, but I've heard too many stories of gift cards being stolen and the letter never making it to the destination.
I use a large USPS flat rate priority envelope to mail it now. It's just the cost of doing business now.
This is frustrating. Happened to me, went to the USPS. The post master said he would look into it and call me back.
I doubt he could have done anything about it anyway, but still didn't call me back.
Had my burner card compromised online. IIRC, I was having difficulty making a payment on a website, there formatting was a little off and it wouldn't take the card unless I tried another browser. I thought it was on my end but the site was likely hacked.
Anyway, some dufus used the card to buy power tools at 2 in the morning when I couldn't see charge alert ping through my phone and the seller shipped them out before I could stop them in the morning. They used a burner email with my name on it and everything and couldn't stop UPS from delivering it and wouldn't disclose the delivery address to me.
Anyway, when you need a new CC, asking for express delivery will avoid USPS.
For many reasons, I keep my mail man buttered up really nice for Christmas.
were they both mailed on the same day. could have just got stuck or lost at the local post office and never even made it out the door. what does tracking show for its journey in the wild. I have had and seen that happen at my past job, I did a lot of postage and mail runs for the water company it was part of my job duties and seen stuff happen not even the postal workers seen and could explain.
The current USPS is horrible. In recent history, my son mailed a postcard in Key West and it took 30 days (from the postmark) to get to Saint louis, MO.

My sister mailed 2 birthday cards to me, one from her, one from my mom. They are about 80 miles from me. She put both of them in teh same mailbox at the same time. One of them showed up in 3 days, the second one took 10 days.
Postcards must be fair game somehow.
I'll say 40% of postcards I've sent have vanished.
So much of what contributes to charm has been vanishing from our lives.
Had a first class letter from BofA that showed on my informed delivery, and arrived a week after the original out for delivery day. No other fubars recently.
