Hey!
I'm wondering if WD-40 Specialist Silicone lubricant is appropriate for caliper slide pins.
ChatGPT suggested that silicone-based lubricants are ideal for this application, which is why I'm considering this product. However, I want to double-check with real-world experience.
Thanks!

hmm AI is not very clear, so I can see why you would think this would be a good idea but I wouldn't use that on my slide pins.

I used to use this stuff Permatex Ceramic Brake Parts Lubricant - Purple though I never had an issues with using this, I saw countless videos on YouTube mentioning that in high heat areas of the US, the purple lubricant would seize the slide pins. I used that purple grease for the back and ear of the brake pads now, until it is finished, and would probably try something else.

I also use this purple grease on bolt that might be exposed to the elements and to prevent rust, it was suggested by someone I trust who works on cars in Minnesota, and it has made any subsequent removal of parts, much easier as things come right off.

Since then I switched to Toyota Rubber Grease - Lithium Soap Grease (Pink) again no issues but I prefer to use it since Toyota recommends and uses it and it is very Cheap, my tube will last me 10+ years easily.

What the AI is suggesting would be something similar to this Permatex Silicone Brake Parts Lubricant - Orange never used it but I have read good things on this type of lubricant

If it's thin enough to spray, it won't work optimally.

Went through this a while back when looking for something that lasted longer than the Sil-Glyde I'd used for years. Since then I've learned that a silicone paste is probably the best bet for caliper pins (and lots of other stuff). You just have to make sure whatever you use doesn't have any petroleum components that can attack and/or swell rubber parts of the caliper. @Trav turned me onto this: https://www.amazon.com/Dielectric-Excellent-Lubricant-electrical-connectors/dp/B09ZDQ76XH/ref=sr_1_17?crid=2RIUYKFP5QATT&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.pKAP1lZd3pnjP12PEWSkZc2ZzReuMBpXKaWTguO1YDHfnsd7Wn3OXheOpY9iP35_cBE-sjDTHUVZQ7LcSRnYCPQaLIGoL-cy46v_G40rCNovhmXFVNrAjZwRZAW-WfQymOBdG__7gFLFlNnFlfjrOBPZ-poHPGeBNH_QIQyXlrFpvvWsxp7QWOT3KdyX9f6utIyoQwT_oDZWs4dxo_ukziCLip6gHTnFgoZ5oN7wXk5uB7Uc8kG-V5ib7FsaXwvGaKq18WikvYdJe92du7U_5Vk54ps3cWkaPS-vLsaT5dQ.9aavSaN3y4LEvLVdeYD9I7jvo4I1YRRNlT45FcdZl9w&dib_tag=se&keywords=dielectric+silicone+grease&qid=1753530173&sprefix=dielectric+silicone+,aps,115&sr=8-17

@Glenda W. listed 2 more good-uns. I would be cautious about the WD because it may have some petroleum based carrier for the spray that could damage rubber, even though it states on the can it can be used on rubber.

Can't find it. Tried everywhere and all of the eBay sellers I attempted orders from all said they could not ship the ones they had since they were old . That stuff will last for generations.
I have 1.5 bottles left. I greased my caliper pins during a pad replacement before Covid and the brakes feel great. Maybe I am imagining things but well lubricated pins are essential for proper caliper piston retraction. I ceramalube the pad’s ears, the caliper piston surface and any caliper contact points.

Who said there is no such thing as unicorn 🦄 tears. Lol

A silicone grease or paste would be appropriate.

No i would never use that on caliper slide pins.

Use one of the above suggestions, I use mission, but i don't think its available anymore. Other silicone greases are available.
