I was wondering if a 15w40 oil is too thick for the v6 in my Honda Ridgeline and the inline 4 cylinder in my wifes Neon? I work at a truck repair shop and can get a good price on Delvac 1300 of $1.50 per quart from our bulk tank. I live in Ohio so they see all kinds of temperatures. Thats all we run in the shop vehicles from the forklifts, air compressors, Impalas and S-10 trucks, ect with no problems, but I dont want to damage my stuff in anyway. Whats everybodies opinion?

My dad has the same engine in his Vue and its doing great with 5w-20.

I'd say that 15w40 is too think.

I would stick to what the manufacture recommends in you personal vehicles.

Will the 15w40 work, yes, but not as well as other viscosity oils in your applications.

I wouldn't want to run the 15-40 in winter. Otherwise it would probably work fine.

I wonder if the worse fuel economy you would get would wash out the 50 cents a quart you are saving?

how are you getting Delvac 1300 bulk for 1.50qt? I just paid $9.99 Gallon for a 100 gallon fill of our tank, you may have Mobil Fleet 15w40 wich is about $7.00 a gallon
also IHMO way to thick for your Ridgline we even stock 5w30 for our 6.0 GM gas engines because the Delvac is too heavy

I am amazed at how you guys find a 15w40 too thick. Its one of the most common mixed fleet/diesel specs visco in Europe and around the world. You guys are moving into summer anyway. I ran 10w60 Castrol Edge through our summer for 10,000k's now. Gonna use my purchased for cheap stash of Delo 400 15w40, about 20 litres or so. And that will be through winter. Many of our car manuals state use 15w40 in snow conditions !

I think oil manufacturers like anything else, go with what the consumer prefers. I dont think any oil company will sell oil in the U.S if his lowest grade was only a 5w40.

I dont know how they came up with that price, the parts dept said if I broight my own jugs, they would sell it to me for that price with my employee discount pricing. They have 2 chevy delivery vans with the 6.0 in them, both over 200k miles with delvac 15w40 since new, no problems, even run it in the impalas and bonnevilles. It does say 1300 super on the tank.

Then again, there are people on here with multitudes more knowledge on oil than me and have given you advice, follow the masses hehe

Are those Vinal Records in the background?

Absolutely! A few crates of my 60s garage psych 45s :^) I was spinning some vinyl while I was outside waxing my car. Perfect way to spend my day off
