Is this oil still good?

Hey guys. I have a 2007 Yamaha R6. Before winter, I changed the oil in my bike and the filter, using Mobil 1 4T 10W-40 oil, and a new Mobil 1 filter. Im not sure how many miles I put on the bike after the oil change, but it wasnt many. Id have to guess maybe 100 miles, a worst case scenario. Probably more like 50 though. I then put the bike away for winter.

Today its warm, and I thought about taking the bike out of storage. I pulled out the dipstick, and the oil looks like brand new oil. I wiped it off on a paper towel and it was the usual yellow color of new oil, so its obvious not many miles were put on the bike after the last oil change.

I dont continuously start up my bikes when they are in storage, I believe its more detrimental than beneficial to do this.

Is the oil good to go for another few months, after sitting for several months without a startup?

Drain it immediately! Put it into a tightly sealed jug and mail it to me. (I'll run it for the next 5000 miles in my bike.)

That oil is fine. You did the right thing by changing before storage. As you say, frequent starts would be more problem than just sitting.

You put that good oil in for this reason - Fire in the hole!

NP! there is enough Ca for TBN in there to deal with any tiny amount of water condensate with the unit sitting. Running it is what uses the oil up. Paraffin are fairly unreactive below 300F - In fact you can drink 'em.

This is exactly what i did (minus i prefer OEM filter) with M1-4T, I changed the oil and took the bike to the Dragon (Deals Gap) probably logged 200 miles over 3 days going up and down the hill.. back home and into storage it went, I have no ententions of draining it untill atleast 2,000 depending on how i ride.. Theres a good possability i wont dump it till this fall as i wont get many miles this year with house remodeling going on.. Your fine.. RUN IT..

Just wondering, this comment: "there is enough Ca for TBN in there to deal with any tiny amount of water condensate with the unit sitting." essentially means that Ca will absorb the water from condensation? And even so, isnt this bad?

And Otis...I can see you love your 05 R1...I love the 04-05 R1 years...they are amazing looking.

No it doesn't absorb the water.

Get out and ride that thing A LOT and you'll never have a water problem.

Yes i love that bike, modded the sin out of it when new, carbon this/titanium that.. lots of bits and pieces.. and dont worry about water, first run of the year where you get the bike up to temp youl burn whatever small amount of water is in the system out.. Ive stored my bike in a unheated garage for 7 years with Stabil in the tank and a trickle charger on the battery, most years i change oil just before winter and run it out a normall OCI.. these engines are brutal and all but bulletproof.. dont sweat the small stuff.. Ride it like you stole it and just do good maintence on it..
