Been resarching on this and other sites for several weeks trying to identify a sealant/wax/polish that will last 6 months that can be purchased locally. I am on the road a lot and have 5 vehicles to maintain so applying twice a year is my limit. All vehicles are light in color so deep rich shine is not a priority. I just want long lasting protection. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Why limit yourself to local shops? You're probably going to miss out on a lot of great products that are easily sourced online.

With that said, for a wax you might want to see if you can locate Collinite. Here is their web site:
http://www.collinite.com/

It may be carried at local marine stores, if you have any in your area.

Head to your BMW dealer and they usually carry Klasse. They can last you 6 months.

Steve Treece in Charlotte is the Zaino distributor for the Carolinas. His number is (704) 759-0142. Email is "[email protected]"

Call or email him and find out if/when he's going to be in your neck of the woods. He does a lot of car shows and car club events. His prices are the same as the Zaino Store (www.zainostore.com).

Klasse is the best for durability but it is hard to find locally, especially the Sealant Glaze. There is a line of detailing products called Duragloss that you can find at Napa and Carquest, maybe some other places. If they don't have what you are looking for they can order it.

The Duragloss Aquawax is outstanding as a topper to your sealant. They have just come out with a new polish/cleaner (#115, I think) which is similar to Klasse AIO. After applying this, top with Aquawax and you are good for at least two or three months. Periodically (two or three times a year) freshing it up after a wash or use their Fast Clean and Shine quick detailer on a continuous basis, although it sounds like you are trying to avoid this sort of thing. Duragloss has top notch products and reasonable prices.

But really, Klasse AIO/SG can be ordered on-line from a lot of places (even Amazon.com) and a pint of each will last the life of your vehicle. Don't limit yourself to OTC when it is so easy to order the best stuff on line. If you decided to order on line, look at Menzerna Full Metal Jacket and Jeff Werkstatts Prime/Trigger combo. These products are very much like Klasse and may even offer a bit more gloss with the same durability as the Klasse twins.

Which product do you suggest? 476, 845? Also, since these are waxes should a sealant be applied on top? If so, suggestions? Collinite doesn't appear to offer a sealant.

Collinite 476 is the product of theirs I like best.

Zaino is definitely the way to go for durability. 9 months with each coat and it is layerable.

The only caveat with Zaino is that you need to prep the surface really well(Clay bar)...

But if you put in the initial effort to prep the surface, you'll really be amazed at the end!

Don't apply a synthetic sealant over a wax, you'll have bonding issues which will decrease durability of the sealant. Wax over sealant, rarely any problems.

+1 for 476s alone. Some of my friends use it only and it lasts a long time.

Collinite is a real sleeper that gets some rave reviews on Autopia as a topper.

I just put it on both of my Miatas, over 3 coats of Zaino. It muted the brilliance of Zaino, but gave it a depth that had been missing. I'm very impressed and will be continuing to use both products. I've found the 476S to be virtually impervious to bird bombs, which Zaino is not, and that it makes it easier to remove bugs. It actually looks even better a week later, after it's been washed.

Keep in mind that the proper prep will make most any wax look very good. A clay bar treatment should be considered if you want the wax to hold up as long as possible.

I plan on doing the Collinite, alone, on my fiance's father's Expedition, after a clay bar treatment.

The 845 does not last quite as long as the 476S, but can sometimes be found at Advance Auto, and is easier to apply.

Make sure you apply Collinite VERY thin, to the point where you can barely see it, or you'll have problems getting it off.

I also agree with the Collinite 845, Werkstatt Twins, and Menzerna Full Metal Jacket. Menzerna also has Aryclic Jacket a very nice one-step.

Klasse All In One followed by S100 might work for you. Collinite waxes last a long time too but you have to be very careful with the amount you put on or they can be a real pia to remove.

dawn wash, clay bar with a 2x-3x soap solution, rinse, dry, klasse aio, 2-x3x klasse SG, and a coat of your favorite carnuba topper, S100 gets my vote, or meguiars yellow #26 paste of course.

if you have more severe paint problems porter cable 7424 the car with the appropiate products and pads after clay bar. An orange power pad should suffice with 3M swirl remover followed by the imperial hand glaze or the meguiars show glaze #7. Anything heavier/sever oxidation may require a 'harsher' yellow cutting pad with light or medium cutting/'rubbing' compound. Then you can klasse the car and SG it and topper.

Mother' reflections or FX seem to be a reasonable sealant. Mother's FX seems most available OTC. However, I do not think either product will last 6 months

There are many mail order products out there. Some are good, others are ok or bad. For example,I am experimenting with products from Finish Kare.

This is a sealant system similar to Zaino in concept. It seems to shine well/highly reflective and is holding up well to high heat. Their 425 quick detail is outstanding.

You may want to get their sample kit of various products for $18.95. If FK holds up I will order larger quanities of specific products.

Klasse will remove the #7 and the IHG. The Klasse has to go down before a carnauba or solvent based filler.

I have heard there is a new version of Klasse that is not as good as teh older version. Changes were made to comply with the feds VOC requirements. This may be impacting all sealants and waxes. Again, this is not proven.
