I got about 20 bottles of Penzoil 5w30 Platinum from when I had my Cobra...I sold the Cobra and now drive a SHO V6 and want to use this oil...just dont know if there is something I need to do before swiching over...?? I dont really want to do the RX thing again...so I am looking to see an option ...otherwise I need to get rid of this oil...maybe my parts guy will trade me or something...

Is there any reason that makes you think you need to do something special before using the PP?

I'm pretty sure you can just put it in without pre-treating your engine.

Check out Mobil's website...They suggest the first OCI to be conservating at or around 3k. Dump the synthetic as it will clean your engine really well and you don't want all that gunk (if any) circulating in your oil. Then then the next OCI could be extended out. Perhaps you should save that PP and by some Supertec Syn which is cheap for the first OCI... Just a thought.

There is a very specific procedure, but to find out what that procedure is you must refer to "How to do an oil change"

I dont frequent here all the time but I remember somebody on here once said that if you didnt get all the old dino out before you stuck the new Synthetic in then it would jell up in the engine when they mixed....sounded stupid to me but thought I would ask...

Other than that, I know how to change the oil itself....

The SHO has 132K and runs like it has 20K on it...if it leaks then I really dont know it cause it has to be tiny...oil is always full and never see drops on driveay...

I guess its time to go get a filter so I can swap it out...

Give the synthetic a try. If it does uncover some leaks, then just switch it back to what you were using before. It should be fine though

Synthetic is compatible with conventional oil, so I highly doubt that gel myth.

Dino oil will NOT gel up if you add synthetic oil.
BLENDS are dino and synthetic mixed, and they don't gel.

If you want to, you can add a pint of SeaFoam and run engine for a few minutes before the oil change.
Not needed but won't hurt anything.

synthetic blend is meant for budget-conscious consumers who wants the benefits of synthetics but cannot afford to pay full synthetic price.

That being said, however, many most recent regular mineral oils certified for ILSAC GF-4/3 varities are already come with certain degree of Gp 3 in it so at the end of the day, they are unofficially considered to be "synblend".

as the gap narrows, it is ok to switch between full syn, synblend and ordinary multivis motor oil.

Your back must be kept straight. Sitting forward of your chair with your legs crossed at the ankles under your seat. Hold the oil container firmly between your thumb and index finger. Your other fingers should not touch the oil container but your middle and ring fingers should be slightly bent and your little finger - pinky, if you will - should be extended away from the other fingers. Pour gently into the crankcase.

Oh wait. That's the proper way to drink tea.

I just changed the oil from dino to syn in one oil change. Nothing special. My truck has no manners anyway.
