Let's say I go out of my way to get AV Gas, or ethanol free gas at a station that touts it. Just short of sending this to some lab and whatever $$ it costs, is there some sort of relatively inexpensive way to test for the prescence of it...
add a small amount of water in a container, mark level, add fuel, shake and let settle if water level raises any it has ethanol in it. You can buy aviation testing kits to learn the percentage. you can buy them from eaa
Yes, I take some gas and add
If you need exact percentage of ethanol in fuel, you can Google search calibrated ways of doing this with chem lab glassware.

I don't understand this, wouldn't adding anything raise the level..... ?

He's talking about the separation line between the water on the bottom and the gasoline on top. The line is marked before the gasoline is added and shaken. When everything settles, that line will be higher from the ethanol that made its way from the gasoline to the water.
Still gotta be better than ethanol from a storage standpoint...
Option A is to just recycle them over time but that get's tiresome with 5 Gal Jugs.
I still will need to make this decision based on how *far* out I will need to drive to get such/said gas...and whether the cost outweighs the benefits..

Non Ethanol gas + airtight JerryCans...
Seeing as New York isn't known for earthquakes, you must mean either hurricane or snow/ice storm or similar. Weather forecasts give PLENTY of warning for these events. Stock up then if warranted.
i read an artical about using AV Gas in cars. the short story is it is a bad idea. cause the AV Gas is blended for going way up in the sky. it up sets the AF ratio.

please understand i am NOT a gas expert. i only know what i read. gas is blended for the certen conditions. and a air craft operate in totally different conditions than cars. even alltiatude will need to change the blend. if you buy 5 gal of gas in Wichita in august and take it to Denver and try to use it it might vapor lock on you. we know we have guys on this site that know WAY more about this subject than i do.
