Is STP a good thing for oil?

For extra ZDDP verses one of the more expensive boosters used for engine break-in??

I was just wondering if on either of my vehicles if a bottle of STP might be good insurance when combined with SM-rated 10w30?

Especially on my 4.0L since I am using SM oil and it is a flat tappet engine?

I wouldnt use it,most of it settles to the bottom of the oil pan.I was a Forklift mechanic at one time years ago,and we could alway`s tell when a customer put that [censored] in their.It settled to the bottom in a thick gray gooey pile.Granted those motor`s run cooler than an automobile engine,but I still wouldnt use it in my car.

It was probably OK for older neglected engines from the 60's/70's but only to buy more time or to make a quick sale of a beater.

Only good for raising hot oil pressure on an old engine w/worn cam, main & rod bearings, usually in conjunction w/20W50 or heavy single weight-using in an engine w/tight tolerances would do more harm (low cold pumping ability) than good.

How about a neglected 80s 0r 90s or 2000 engine?

In a beaten oil burner it has its place, new or old engine. I wouldn't put it in anything I own that is running well.

STP doesn't have the same amount of zinc it used to [and other stuff].
It is a good assembly lube and oil thickener. I have no use for the STP 'small car' formula, which not only has light additives but it pretty thin.

Well Yeah! I suppose so but, STP is just old technology and during the era that I was refering to, STP was probably considered a GOOD product of the day.

I'll use a FRAM oil filter if it's at a reasonable price or comes with an oil/filter change.

Get brigss and stratton lawnmower oil it has a goodly ampunt of zddp or John Deere +50. More zddp/volume than OLD stp.

IMHO, it is a mistake to add anything to a fully formulated finished oil.
The only exception, for me, would be ARX, which I have used in two engines.
I personally would not dump in a bottle of anything else.
The people who developed whatever oil you are using presumably knew what they were about.
Why second guess their work?

STP is decent quality stuff today - it's not the tarry stuff it used to be. Makes the oil a bit stouter, big deal.

STP just does not have that great of an add pack for what your buying. VSOT now there was a good add pack, good thing I still have 10 bottles....

NO, buy an oil with the add pack you want. I don't trust STP, VSOT nor SLOB.. Bad ideas.
