Winter in Tennessee? The 5w30 is spec for your engine! In summer the hotter time of year you can go 10w30, 5w30 in winter.

Why are you wanting to use a 10w40?

He has souped the engine up and is running NOS and such( as I recall ).

Yes in Memphis,TN. But in winter time Nissan dealers tld me to used 5w30 n tld me do not used 0w30. But royal purple tech tld me used 10w40 all years.

The only thing I'm worry about when's come to winter time I don't want my engine to be damage by 10w40 royal purple.

U r right. I don't used nitrous alot but I drive the car at 7100 rpm alot so I want higher protectin the engine. Have u ever open valve cover bec I see u been using royal purple for long time if so did ur engine look super clean?
 
My friends and I used to be big into muscle cars and drag racing. We built a lot of engines for those cars in our "hot rod youth". Quite a few we tore down were run either exclusively on( ie; an engine we had already rebuilt and used only RP in )or were run exclusively on it after we bought it( mostly muscle cars with sound mechanical engines we left alone ). The engines were always very clean inside. We also used GTX a lot and it too would leave the engines pretty clean deposit wise but you got some varnish/discoloration. The RP engines we rebuilt looked brand new; literally.

Note - The tearing down of most of the engines was for upgrades not due to failures. I did tear a couple down that just needed it as they were very old but usually it was more a case of tweaking something for a faster drag time. I have had exactly one engine blow up on me in all the years I have been an auto enthusiast. It was a MOPAR SB that we beat the ever loving snot out of and time and again took it way past it's safe RPM limit. Eventually the rod bearings gave out. I am surprised we didn't throw a rod or float every valve in the heads it was so crazy what we did to that poor thing.

In the summer it will be ok certainly. That or 10w30. The tech guys at RP are very good and are about as honest as you will ever find in regards to their products. If they say they feel 10W-40 is their best option for you I would give that a lot of respect.

How cold does it get there in TN in the middle of winter? As long as it stays at approx 20 F and above you could use 10W-40 year round. If temps drop down into the teens or even zero or below( in TN though? )I would drop back to a 30 weight during those months personally. A 40 weight can still be used then. Actually, RP has a 0W-40 oil you may want to consider for those cold months.

If you use 10W-40 year round and you see temps below the 20's F just be gentle starting it 1st thing in the AM and don't rev the engine until it has idled for say 20-30 seconds or so.

You are going to beat this engine up so you need a good oil. RP is a good one( Redline would be my other choice for this application ). I think the 10W-40 will be ok here.

Arguing with Audi Junkie on a RP thread, has the look and feel, of an English speaking tourist, trying to get directions from a Chinese speaking tourist, when both just stepped foot in Russia.
 
Yeah,like Hemi said,the tech guys at RP will evaluate your car,driving habits,etc,and tell you the best oil for your application,and not just read you the CAFE/EPA requirements. They recommended their 10W40,15W40,and 20W50 for my car.
 
We don't get snow at all in winter time maybe 2-4 time not even half in on floor.

The tempertare in winter is 20-40 outside maybe below 20 2-3 time sometime.

I ask redline tech they tld me to used 5w30 even they knew I'm running nos.

??

API SM, just like any $2 conventional oil. End of story.
 
My manual called for 5w30,10w30,n 10w40.

So will I be okay 10w40 all year?

I was thinking my next oil change will be 5w30 XPR oil will is hurt the engine by changing 40 weight to 30 weight?

Is 5w30 XPR better than redline n Amsoil? I know Amsoil don't make racing oil but redline do but is not good for street driven.
 
Yes, you can run 10w-40 all year round.

You will not hurt your engine by switching from a 40 weight to a 30 weight. Some 40 weight oils thin out to a 30 weight oil with use anyways, so even if you put in fresh 10w-40 to start, it might go down to a 10w30 2000 miles down the road anyways.

Is XPR better than Amsoil or Red Line? In my opinion, no way. First off I would never run royal purple because I see it as gimmicky oil, I don't care for any company that claims their oil allows maximum horsepower or stuff like that. I would never use a racing oil like xpr in my daily driver even if the company said I could, because there simply is no point. You honestly don't even need to use synthetic, but that's not what you want to hear anyways. Red Line and Amsoil are perfectly fine oils for street driven vehicles, either one would be 1000x better than what you need.

Im a big fan of In-Store Items. I can get Royal Purple and Kendall from AutoZone.. but i vote "Valvoline MaxLife" as "Above Average at Everything."

I switched from Castrol -Anything- a long time ago.. though i ran Mobil 1 15W-50 until High Mileage Oil came out.

Please let me know of which AMSOIL you speak.

I never trusted them, because of their Marketing.. seemed a Fabricated Fallacy, so i was always like "Amsoil? Oh. Them."

"Better Than Synthetic," They say... When Synthetic isnt even -really- needed. Most of the time...

You need to pick an oil and weight and just get on with it. You are making this WAY more complicated for yourself than it needs to be. 1st off you were asking about the regular SAE RP 10W-40 and most everyone, including RP Tech support, has said it is fine. Now you are on to the XPR 5w30( you do know that stuff is like $15+ a qt right? )??? Just pick one. RP, Redline, or Amsoil, in a 30 or 40 weight, will do the job for your needs.

No offense meant at all by any of this. Just stop over thinking this. Pick soemthing and move on.

Hey Rohan, I am just curious to what condition your tires and brakes are? You are so concerned about your oil and what magnificent changes it will do to car that i am guessing you probably have upgraded to Brembos and have serious rubber on the Maxima. No use having a car that is fast when you cant stop!

I prefer a PAO and use RP and Amsoil.
