Is Outback Steakhouse any good ?

Last one I ate at was in Tokyo, after 2 weeks backpacking through Asia we were a little homesick. It was just like it is here, mediocre. But, it beat corn, squid and prawns on the Pizza Hut pizza in Shenzhen.

x2, rib eye steaks are killer.

See, if it was Oz based, that would be Scotch Fillet.

A jab at the cheap Scottsman stereotype, and fillet steak

It's a chain for the middle class. I haven't been to one since I was a kid. When it comes to food, I'd rather give a small business my money.

Was that the one in Takanawa? I've been there though it's been a few years

The steak chain I used to like up there was The Keg … still OK ?

I used to like Outback but back in 2001 or so the ones on Long Island anyway really started to show a lack in service and quality. I stopped going.

Then a few years ago we were on the road and there was an Outback across the street from the hotel we were stopping at so my wife suggested we eat there. I was reluctant but that one, in North Carolina was actually surprisingly good. I have no reason to believe the NY based ones have improved but I've observed what many others on here have said, some are better than others.

Yep … as does our country club that sure serves it for more … but they would have little price leverage in comparison …

Carrabbas, Bone Fish and a few others are part of the same ownership group as Outback.

Texas Roadhouse also has excellent ribs, lean and tender. Very good side salad with egg and cheese in it as a side selection. Of course the rolls are piping hot with a very good cinnamon butter. Careful not to fill up on these along with the peanuts or you won't be hungry for dinner. The pulled pork dinner is a huge portion. Chicken critter salad is also very good, their version of chicken tenders on a salad.

Still a great place for a steak and they are super busy all the time.

Saltgrass is a moderately priced chain steakhouse in this area owned by Landry's group. I have consistently received better quality steaks for the money thete than similar chains including anything I was ever served at Outback, Texas Roadhouse, etc without the high $$$ of Ruth's Chris, J Prime, etc.

Yes! It was down in the basement with the fake windows.

Yep that's the one. We ended up in Tokyo on a weather delay and missed the connection. It was late and we stumbled onto the Outback. The airline (ANA) paid for the meal. We closed the place.

Is outback steakhouse a good steak house? it's like asking if KFC has good fried chicken or not.

It's a mass market steakhouse with the sole purpose of moving product at high rates. The cooks there often screw up your order by overcooking it. The lower quality meat usually means I would get it cooked more anyway, unlike a premium steakhouse with the dry aged beef, that I order rare, and enjoy the mustiness of the aged meat.

Is outback steakhouse horrible? No, as long as you go in with the correct expectations for the product, you'll be happy. When I go there, I sometimes will grab the A1 and occasionally dip a slice in it.

Fair comparison, like Taco Bell has good Mexican food, Outback is a good steak house. Just another corporate food trough like TGI Friday's, Chili's, Applebee's. Nothing great nothing terrible.

Mr Nice.....in your location.....try Del Friscos and Christners! Both are amazing

Would love to see The Keg in the Houston area … (although not a city short of eating places, the crowd shows it)
