I have heard that mobil 1 changed formulas a while back and it was a turn for the worse. Could the new blend still do the million miles, I'm sure it could, but is it still a impressive synthetic, seems like people are getting away from it now. Thanks for entertaining my nonsense.

What's the addage, believe none of what you hear and half of what you see.

Still a great oil, I think others like PP have improved to the point that it doesnt make much difference but still a great lube that I would use w/o hesitation when on sale. Use with confidence.

The competition in the synthetic market has become very high and the technology us greater now than ever before. Simply put - there are better synthetics available now than Mobil1. I prefer Pennzoil Ultra or Castrol Edge Titanium if I was even thinking of spending Mobil1 prices.

Some oil salesman and oil companies would like customers to think M1 oils have degraded while all the other lubes have improved. Todays M1 is the best I have ever used in the 35 years I have used their products. Since you don't use M1, why the concern?

Everyone says that M1 is so expensive, though PP PU M1 and Castrol Edge are all the exact same price at walmart anyways. $25 for a 5qt jug

Mobil 1 is a great oil. So is Pennzoil Synthetics, Valvoline Synthetics, Castrol Synthetics and the list goes on. I mean, I use Napa Syn(Valvoline Syn. Clone) without any issues, I easily go 8 to 10,000 miles on that oil alone.

If you want to believe the silly arguments about grp III, so be it.

If you live in the arctic, you may be on to something for a VERY specific application.

For most anything else, you're just buying somebody's misconception on some silly value proposition argument.

It is still one of the top over the counter oil products. There are no worries with this oil, and I find it cheaper for the most part than any other top named synthetics.

Good points all.

The simple fact is that almost any synthetic and many blends are far better than actually needed at the short intervals most folks dump them at. Regular dino these days is quite stout and easily capable of keeping the car running well far longer than the owner will ever care.

Seems like the whole debate about m1 is almost relegius :-)

I never really had a favorite oilbrand. But after using m1 5-30 esp ( I think it's called) for a few years simply because i got it free at work. I have now startet using liqui moly and my engine seems more quit and soft running at iddle. But really the difference is verry small.

Bingo.

Conjecture, Internet rumors, and unfounded rumors are all garbage and you shouldn't spend any time analyzing them.

But then again, not all of use live where MI, PP, PU and Castrol Edge are $25 a jug. Around here, Ottawa, Canada, you are looking at close to $50CDN ($49USD) a jug for those brands at walmart, and walmart has the best price around. Mobil1, at least around here, almost NEVER goes on sale...EVER!

+1 - by and large **most** folks here and elsewhere dump the oil far too early making it irrelevant which oil is used--be it synthetic or conventional.

Buster, is that you

Mobil One continues to dominate synthetic sales (they are still #1 by a long shot) and have the most manufacturer approvals. Last I checked, Mobil EP is still rated at 15,000 miles and regular syn Mobil at 10,000 miles. I do believe that Pennzoil is right there with them, with Castrol and Valvoline slightly behind. I, personally, only use Mobil EP, AFE or their 0W-40 because I consider these their top oils.
