My only experience with LubeGuard Red, is that it fixed a lot of bad situations with transmissions, where changing out the fluid (properly) alone had no effect or not enough effect.
My current vehicle is one of them. Bad [censored] torque converter shudder. Properly flushed out fluid to ATF+4, and still had bad [censored] shudder. Added LubeGuard Red after 500 miles of that business, and now I can't find the shudder even if I try to cause it to happen.
I don't think LubeGuard Red deals with any issues concerning deficiencies of new proper transmission fluid. I think it does address a lot of other issues such as improperly designed transmissions (Ford), transmissions overloaded from the factory(Ford), and also transmission issues caused by wear or abuse.
I know that the "f*** additives" club has a lot of loyal members, but seriously, this is one additive that actually works. It took my friend's Ford Taurus from the point of doing second gear starts, failing to shift into overdrive, slamming in drive when stopped, and refusing to downshift, to acting like a perfectly normal, or even better than normal car.
Despite all of the arguments, science, explanations, calculations, and rationalizations I have heard against LGR, none of it has stopped it from correcting a really messed up transmission when I have poured it down the dipstick tube.
Given the fact that many people here spend hundreds of dollars on exotic fluids and filters for their vehicles, with the idea that sometime in the future, parts will survive an indefinable amount of time beyond typical service life, I am really surprised that a $12 fluid (I actually pay $7 for mine) that gives real and nearly instantaneous results would take such a [censored] by so many people.
