Autozone is currently giving all of its employees a just of nexgen or maxlife nexgen. I picked up a bottle of the regular stuff. I have been running Mobil 1 / Pennzoil Platinum / Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in my care since I've owned it (40k miles). The smell of this nexgen is rank. Makes me gag just smelling it, so it makes me weary of running it in my engine. Should I do a short 3k OCL or just dump it in the mowers?

Bad smell means it's good

Don't waste good oil on a short OCI or a mower. Put that stuff in your ride and run it as long as you would any other oil of the same spec.

With the temp differences in Ohio, it would probably be best to just run the syns you are used to and use this in another vehicle/motor. If you are sure you are not going to be in extreme cold/heat then maybe but if you are in doubt, then use it in other things.

I just noticed that in my excitement to make my original post, I misspelled a few words. It should say "jug" of nexgen, not "just". And "car" not "care". And it should read "I gag just smelling it". Sorry for the poor grammar.

Ive noticed Synpower does have a very smelly smell. Id be all over a free jug of nextgen! I wouldnt be concerned to run it at all. It meets SN, good enough for me.

Valvoline usually smells pretty good. Except for MaxLife ATF

Ahh, I miss the freebies I got working at auto-parts store. Satin disco jacket from Castrol Syntec, Green "Pleather" jacket from Quaker State, got to try Splitfires for free when FirstBrands first started marketing them, tons of t-shirts and hats, couple of watches, free teflon infused Fram ultra filter when they came out...etc...
