Is it Possible?

I have a Yamaha EF 4600A generator with the manual pull start. I was wondering if it was remotely possible to convert it over to an electric start?

I borrowed a generator once to go to a race and the guy had it hooked up so all you had to do was connect a portable battery jumper box to it and hit a button and it would fire up. I have no way of getting a hold of this guy to find out how he did it and I cant seem to find out anything on the net. Would greatly appreciate any input. TY

i "converted" the manual pull start on my mower to a drill start. takes a bit of torque but it gets there.

Find out the exact model of engine involved.
Check and see if it's been used in a riding mower (unlikely) or commercial use-(i.e. cement mixer).
They may have an electric start version.
Since Yamaha is a large mfg., check with a dealer that has been working on these motors for a good while.
They may know IF that's even possible.
This maybe a very expensive change over.
Keep the fuel treated with Sta-bil, and run it a couple of times per year. It'll start.

I just went through this with my FIL. He wanted 12V E-start on an older pull start Honda gen he's got. For the cost, you might as well buy a generator already equipped. This Yamaha probably doesn't have a ring gear on the flywheel to accommodate a starter, doesn't have the shrouding and mounted setup for a starter, you'll need an ignition switch, relay, a means to charge the battery... the list goes on. Not to say something custom built can't be cobbled together, just if you want an OEM setup, sell this one on Craigslist and buy what you want.
