I don't know if this has been covered or not, but I've wondered over the years if it hurts to switch up brands of oil in a motor. I've always heard that you should stick with the same brand once you start with it in a vehicle. If that's the case or not, would that also apply with synthetic? I recently got Valvoline 5w30 synthetic on sale at Oreilly's for $3.99/qt, so I got 12 qts, but if I catch some Castrol Synthetic, M1, or PP on sale, I don't know whether to load up on it as well, therefore switching up brands but staying with the same weight (5w30) in all my vehicles.....

I might try some of the Castrol Edge since I think they have a rebate going on it right now, and a lot of folks on here are swearing by it. I just need to find out which oil filter is the best for my 2 Toyota's and the 1 Honda. I'd like to find some that are bigger than the OEM that will hold more oil (the Civic doesn't hold but 3.5 qts.)

A lot of folks on here will swear by a lot of things. At least for a while or until the next "wonder oil/additive/filter" comes along.

I believe one consistency you'll find on this board is that most agree that Wix, Napa Gold (made by Wix), and Purolator PureOne, are three very good filters for the price.
Personally, I cannot agree with paying $12-$15 for an Amsoil EAO, a Mobil 1, or a K & N oil filter if your OCI is less than 10k miles (and your OEM filter is the size of a thimble). But, then again, that's personal preference.

Switch away. No problem switching. There is some truth in an oil being at it's own best after 2-3 OCI's, but even if you switch oil brands every oil change, you wouldn't hurt anything.

Where is Bill in Utah? I don't think he's had the same oil twice in a row in his Toyota. His used oil analysis always look fine...
I've gone from 3k OCI's on dino to 7.5k on the syn. I haven't changed the Civic over to syn yet, as I just bought it and done the first oil change in it with Castrol High Mileage 5w30....the weight it calls for ( down from the 10w40 the guy was putting in it at the local fast lube!). I'll run it for around 3k then switch it over to syn. The factory OCI on it is 7.5k, so I should have no trouble out of the syn up to 10k OCI's.....
