Is it just me, or are oil filters...

Carolina Gamecock here; can't think of a garnet filter. I would veto anything orange, again for the obvious reason. BTW, I wasn't the one who initially led it OT as I didn't initiate the "money not backed by anything". However, as an economist, I couldn't resist and fully accept responsibility for leading it further OT.

I have so many oil filters for all my cars, I didn't pay attention to the oil filter price lately but I think Walmart have very good price for Purolator Classic oil filter.

Love South Carolina, you guys have some awesome fans.

Back on topic, fortunately the filters at AAP are usually priced reasonably and you can get a discount. Whenever I need filters for my Fords I order 8 Motorcraft FL820S filters @ $3.99 each and apply the $10 off $30 coupon to get the filters for $21.92 which works out to about $2.88 each after 5% sales tax.

Yep, only problem with that is unless one buys in very larger quantity, the shipping charges eat up any savings and then some.

As said, AAP can have some respectable prices on oil filters if one catches them on sale, combined with oil/filter promos and using online codes. Everyday AAP price may not be that competitive, but the AC increase does sound steep. Wondering when the last time you purchased one from AAP. Sale opportunities are your best option. I've found Napa to be a good place with reasonable prices for Napa Gold cartridges.

As for the AAP employee warning about oil price increases at end of month, based on experience and Bitog reading regarding AAP counter folks, I'd take that with a grain of salt. Generally, unless a specific oil, oil/filter promo, Wally jugs will beat AAP's price, even some promos if using a Puro Classic or Fram Ultra filter.

The guy asked a legitimate question about oil filter prices and you are trying to turn this into a political debate, which will undoubtedly get the whole thread locked. Thanks.

There could be some legitimate causes for filter prices to go up. Surge in demand due to new vehicle sales. Shortage of filtration media. Large filter manufacturer had a factory close, and so on. But nope, it's always something political.

SD456 mentions 'inflation' 2 posts before mine...is that 'political'?
Since when is the TRUTH political?

I think that the US dollar should be backed by oil filters. It makes as much sense as anything else. We just need to decide which oil filter to use as backing. I propose using either the Bosch Distance plus, M1EP (or K&N) or maybe the Amsoil. For the purposes of backing the $, we should go with something good.
Makes more sense than "trillion dollar" coins.

And it's not Chinese oil in the Wally T6 jugs, thank goodness.

+1 Why spend a lot of doughso some some "superior" eurpopean can be rude to you, despite the number of GI's buried near Normandy.

Also was warned at AA that there is going to be some sharp increases in oil at the end of the month as well...
Good thing I scored all that FAR NextGen last year, and if you wait for the Menard's $1.99 QS filter sale, stock up then. Still see some decent deals on Fram Ultras at both Amazon & eBay too-I'd say let AAP price themselves into "No Sale" territory like O'Reilly & AutoZone have (unless there's a sale).

I really wonder if the oil filter manufacturers were smart to recycle the steel, and rubber gaskets and E-CORE plastics then maybe the filter would be a lil cheaper dont you think? Just my opinion.

Ditto on the awesome fans. My intention is to get to Greenville next time we play there, which may be 2013 if not mistaken. We live in Davidson NC so it will be a haul.

I usually buy the AAP or AZ M1 oil change specials which essentially give you the oil at the Wally World indvidual qt price and a free M1EP filter. Fortunately, 3 of 4 cars that I look after take the same M1 filter (07 Camry, 97 Camry and daughter's 98 Camry). My independent Volvo mechanic uses Volvo OEM filter cartridges and allows me to bring my own M1 0W40.

Yeah...charge a filter (akin to a bottle) deposit on new filter purchases or a core charge similar to that of a battery puchaase.

PH-25 $3.45, PO-33 $1.75, S-25 $3.25. That's pretty much my only choices for my '62 Buick. My '77 is a little more forgiving as far as filter length so that lets Purolator into the mix.
