Is flu worse than Covid? Yes!!!

My concentration and ability to focus went out the window. I said a lot of, "Huh?" to myself.
Weird.
Yep. Mine too. Wife said it was like having someone slipping towards dementia. Spent 8 days in covid isolation ward. I remember looking out the window at cars and i couldn't remember which side the steering wheel was on.

I had Covid 4 times.

Flu was worse.

No shutdown of country due to the Flu…..
Give this flu a name like Delta Flu and have two mainstream outlets report it is VERY BAD. Find a couple people who have died from Delta Flu, be sure to NOT mention any comorbidities, and you'll have half the country begging for lockdowns.

Also, remember two very important things:
1) hiding from an airborne virus is very reasonable and entirely possible
2) as humans we are entitled to never get sick. Getting sick is not normal. Indeed, we should strive to never have our immune system do any work whatsoever

I can't remember my last flu shot and never got any covid jabs. I got covid at least one time and I honestly thought it was just 'hay fever' as I had been mowing the day before. It wasn't until I couldn't smell my aftershave that I realized it was probably more serious. That said, I only felt bad for a day.

The swine flu is another story. Had it twice. It was rough.

I had COVID 2X in 2 yrs. The first time was worst than the second time but neither time was as bad as when I had the flu in 2018 with the flu shot. Man it was bad! And I’ve had bronchial/pneumonia several times that were also worst then when I had COVID. ALL 3(pneumonia, flu & COVID) gave the same symptoms and I felt similarly terrible with all three. But my flu was the worst.

Just now going through my first case of flu in a good twenty years and it is nothing nice. I still vividly remember the last one and it was pretty bad as well and I was of course much younger then. I'm over the hump now, but today I still feel very weak. Went to the doctor yesterday and she prescribed some palliatives which did seem to help my sleeping last night. I am vaccinated of course, lot of good that did.
Two years ago I had Covid and it was bad, but not as bad, although more persistent. Doctor prescribed similar palliatives, since it is a similar respiratory infection of a different class of virus with similar symptoms. Vaccinated with a number of boosters, which did a lot of good.
Feel better SOON!

I have been taking the flu shot every single year since about 2005 and have only had it two times since. Once around 2006 and the last time was a month ago. The last time, just recently was the absolute worse case (stomach +body aches mostly) that lasted me almost 10 whole days. Our state health department recently posted statements to the effect : the flu shots given this year have been found to be not as effective as usual. - duh! Still think it helped me not endure a much worse case this time.
Covid: I had what was finally said by my primary care physician a mild case of it a few months before anyone even knew it was around. Then while it was in full swing I tested positive for it for over an entire week and I was not even sick so....? Very lucky I suppose.

I feel for ya man. I had Flu A for Christmas last year.

That’s the sickest I’ve been in my adult life.

High fever for like 3 days that I couldn’t get rid of, despite taking Advil.

Horrible cough.

Really nasty headache.

At one point, the severity of the chest congestion actually had me worried that I might be developing pneumonia.

I was actually in so much misery that I went to the ER on Christmas Day just to see if there was anything they could do to help me feel better. They prescribed Tamiflu but thankfully I started to feel a bit better and never filled the script.

All 4 kiddos had it but they shrugged it off much more easily than I did.

People misuse the word “flu” very frequently to describe everything from a tummy bug to a nasty cold. But actual influenza is really, truly, no joke.

I can tell you I am extremely grateful to be healthy this Christmas!

Sorry for what you’re going through, and hope you feel better very soon! And same to everyone else down with something this Christmas!

Influzenza A was what Spanish Flu was and killed way more people than Covid. They just evoluted into a less dangerous more wide spread strain now, that will happen to Covid as well.
Only because the degree of care wasn't available back then. There were no ventilators for example.

Two winers ago I norovirus. I vomited 22 times in 48 hours. Unlike most stomach bugs where you get a bit of relief, this was non-stop nausea. It was the worst I ever had. Absolutely brutal.
Atleast it wasn't coming out the other end at the same time...

Were you drinking any water when vomiting? After my first runin with Norovirus, I learned to stop drinking until you stop vomiting for a few hours. It really is terrible to have to do that because you're SO DEHYDRATED, but as long as you keep stuff coming in, it's going to come back up.

When I had my second runin with it earlier this year, I waited until I had stopped expelling for a few hours then had a little water. That helped. My fiance who kept drinking water was vomiting for over a day and it finally stopped once my advice was heeded to stop drinking water for a bit.

I had that a few years ago and it was BRUTAL. Only really bad for a day but it was a terrible day.

I had Covid once and was quite sick for a week but I’d take that over norovirus anytime! Everyone’s experience varies, of course.

I've had norovirus twice. I'd rather have covid or the flu. It is just awful. I have never been so sick in my life.

Both times I've had it, I had an insane fever. The first time I think I was up to 103 or 104. Second time was only 100 or so. And I was sick for something like 12-15 hours. It was terrible. By the time I was done upchucking I was so dehydrated an exhausted. At the time I Lived in a small apartment. I think my kitchen was maybe 10 feet from my bed. I crawled (literally) out of bed and crawled to the kitchen to get some water. I had to sleep on the kitchen floor for probably 45 minutes to be able to stand up to get some water and then I spent another hour sleeping on the floor to try to make it back to the bedroom with some water.

At one point I was passed out for like 12 hours.

This last time I had it , I was at least prepared with some knowledge on it. Overnighted a bunch of pedialyte to the house. We were both sick with it. Thankfully just 4 or 5 hours of sick and then just pure exhaustion.

My fiance was able to take care of me this time before getting sick. I remember trying to get out of bed for water and I was so exhausted that the thought of getting out of bed made me so tired I had to sleep. I had to ask my fiance for some water because I was not able to get out of bed. Once I started to get a bet better, I had to be the caretaker.

I had the exact same issues with Noro. Extreme weakness, one the verge of unconsciousness and the vomiting 🤢. After spending all that time in bed I finally got up and walking. And wouldn't you know, I developed a pulmonary embolism and had to get hospitalized. Clot probably started in leg from immobility and travel to lung.

Wow - never thought of that. I can definitely see that happening from being laid up for a while.

I was a bit weak / exhausted after having the 'vid, but nothing like the exhaustion after norovirus.

Covid almost killed me. Had a medical emergency not related to Covid, was tested 3 times in the ER and each time it was negative

Was on a non Covid floor at the hospital & tested negative again, they had a Covid outbreak and I came down with covid and was moved to Covid isolation

Zero symptoms, not sick at all, lungs very clear but since i tested positive it was isolation, if not for Ativan I’d be dead, could not even get a coffee from the hospital coffee shop it was so bad. Lost 30lbs as I refused to eat & just wanted death

Finally tested negative & was transferred to a VA hospital & treated like a human once again

I’m pro vaccine & have had dozens & dozens to include anthrax vaccine

I stopped getting the flu shot (it’s only good for 2 strains) and stopped getting the flue

Got a pneumonia vaccine last week as well as shingles

This year, the annual flu vaccine is not great protection against a new variant of an H3N2.

The 2025-2026 flu vaccine is trivalent (H1N1, H3N2, B/Victoria) and offers good protection against circulating H1N1 and B strains, but a newer H3N2 variant, Subclade K, has emerged, potentially reducing vaccine effectiveness against that specific strain. While not a perfect match for Subclade K, the vaccine still significantly reduces severe illness, hospitalization, and death, making it crucial for everyone 6 months and older to get vaccinated, according to the CDC and health experts.

Reminder; Every Year, thousands die from the flu.
CDC estimates 1,900 flu deaths this year.
