Is corn considered a vegetable or is it part of the bread/grain/cereal category? I think corn bread and corn tortillas are considered grain products, while corn on the cob or loose corn is considered a vegetable.

Corn is a grass. Its seed is therefore a grain.
There are still wild varieties of Teosinte, but they are in danger due to the proximity of cultivated corn.

I think you're right.
The culinary classification depends upon use.
Corn can be used either way, so you could view it as either a grain or a vegetable, even though it really is a grain botanically, just as a tomato will never be considered a fruit or berry in culinary terms.

Sorry for bringing back a dead thread, but I just looked up "fruits versus veg" to settle an unrelated bet yesterday. The definition(s) I came across were that a vegetable was a plant cultivated and harvested for consumption; which would include fruits. I understand corn to be a grass.
