Is Chevron Supreme any good?

You can't beat chevron price/performance, I would have a hard time paying twice as much for castrol/pennzoil/valvoline when chevron is always on sale somewhere for under a buck.

In the Northeast, I never see Havoline on sale or super-special. W*M has it for $1.68...no problem but I'd like to get some under a buck.

Supreme and Havoline are both excellent oils. Really nice so many folks notice. Supreme, especially, is a real value too. I keep telling my boss to charge more (grin)...

I work for Chevron, in the Lubricants department, and have been around for guite a few years in various jobs. The passion around oil is really neato here. Especially for an "insider" like me...

I certainly do not agree with some of the stuff posted in the various threads as reproducible, material, scientifically accurate informed fact

(but a suprising amount is spot-on...)...and the "posers" are funny in a way...but heck I dont agree with my friend's assessments of my favorite sports teams either!

By the way, base oils are to a degree, fungible (similar ones can be switched in use)...meaning almost all the lubricant companies save on freight by not shipping oil across the hinterlands. They trade/purchase for barrels near their lubricant blending plants. This means that in California, for example, a lot of companies use Chevron group II/II+/III base oils from Richmond, Claifornia and in Texas a lot of companies use XOM or Motiva base stocks.

In fleet operations, Chevron has gotton very agressive, in service and pricing. It's kind of usefule to have good service and pricing connected to a good product.

For San Francisco Bay Area Kragen is selling them regularly (almost every other week) for $0.49 after rebate.

That is how I got 4 cases of Chevron Supreme in the garage now.

I have been using Pennzoil ever since I bought my first new car and learned that the dealer's service department used Pennzoil. That was almost twenty years ago. Nothing wrong with the quality of Pennzoil but its price has gone up steadly to the point to consider alternative. Reading here convinces me that Chevron Supreme is good oil to go to, despite its low price.
