Is Amsoil actually good for 25k with their filter?

Is that actually safe? Could I actually use Amsoil Signature with their filter in a standard car and be good for 25,000 miles? If so, would that be as good as using Pennzoil Platinum with a Wix filter and changing it every 5-10k?

Engine sumps seem to mature with mileage, up to a point, but this also requires UOA starting around 10k, and moving up from there if safe to do so. Almost always though, 15k is doable with amsoil with room to spare.

lets see in 25,000 miles will you have any blow by ? How about moisture or and acids or any dirt through your air filter or even in your engine how about any misfires or cold starts or any really hot operations. If you can answer no to all these questions then maybe you could give it a shot.

Personally i change my oil under 7000 miles

Small mountains with mild traffic, usually no colder than 20 degrees F, no hotter than 90, and mostly highway driving.

I would not ever run extended oil change intervals on an older car without a solid baseline UOA... Too many variables, just stick with something solid and change it at a normal interval, like QSUD every 5k.

That is a bit of a stretch.
For sure, change the filter about halfway through. That will help remove acids and other contaminants.

I'm thinking if your driving is fairly moderate, no extended full throttle runs, no trailer or mountains you could go 20,000 max with filter change at 10,000 and top off the oil. Synthetics are less likely to break down due to heat, but the 20,000 is more than I would recommend.

I have a diesel that requires 6 quarts so it can get expensive. I have been using Rotella from Shell in gallon containers, changing every 10,0000 miles.

I am currently investigating Peak brand. It is listed as full synthetic and often is available at $3.99 per quart.

Given that the new performance standard on BITOG is "nothing blowing up", I can pretty well guarantee you that it's "good" in that respect. As such topics then turn to the definition of optimal, and the response is again, nothing blew up.

I don't think it's optimal, I think it's certainly possible...

Even with the majors, not just Amsoil.

Mobil offered similar oil changes as being possible with M1 when quizzed at length back when I had a 4Runner...40,000km, or ONE YEAR...M1 used to be advertised as "40,000km protection reserve" in the '80s.

There's nothing special about Amsoil in that respect, just the law of probabilities states that probably most people who intend 25,000 miles won't go that long in a year anyway...and if they do, it probably won't be too bad.

Here's 37,000km on M1.

What if you do 25K on one oil change and you're wrong? At least you've saved maybe $100 during the year or two that it took to accumulate the miles. I wonder what the cost of such a mistake might be. More than $100?

That OLM doesn't know how much dust is in the oil.

How does dust get in the engine oil?

Assuming everything is tip-top it shouldn't. Least wise I've never seen it to be an issue on my own UOA, and I'd be willing to bet that I drive more gravel toads than 90% of the folks on BITOG.

OneEyeJack,
remember that the Amsoil pledge is 25,000 miles, One year, or 700 hours, whichever comes first, in personal vehicles not undergoing "severe" service. (15,000 miles and the above two firsts for severe).

So if delivering pizza, you are probably stuck at 10-15,000 miles.

"Year or Two" as per your assertion isn't the formal equation.

Ain't that the truth. I wouldn't call it 'new' though.

The Amsoil should do 25,000 miles no problem.

Judging from your previous posts, its unlikely that any of your cars will make it another 25,000 miles.
You've got bigger issues than oil selection.
