iPod touch, wireless connection??

Daughter picked one one up a 8GB trying to get the wireless Internet connection up and running correctly my problem IS..i can get on line and working IF i turn off my security setting on my Linksys router but obviously you can't do that but the ipod and router can't agree on a security setting and let me log on.

the ipod has the following...

WEP
WPA
WPA2
WPA Enterprise
WPA2 Enterprise

my router has....

WPA Personal
WPA Enterprise
WPA2 Personal
WPA2 Enterprise
WPA2 Personal Mixed
WEP
RADIUS
WPA2 Enterprise Mixed

I've tried every one and none will allow a connection any one familiar with thing could help or what am i missing here?

back in the day when i got the router i set up my other computer for wireless and no problem but this thing is a PITA.

any other info needed just ask.
 
Is the router locked down so it won't give out an IP address to anything other than your other computer(s)?

What do the logs on the router say when you try to connect with security enabled?
 
My old Touch and our I Phones work perfectly. Your problem sounds odd, but I bet it will be a simple fix.

Did you reset the router? That solves most problems for me when the arise.

If she just bought it I would call Apple Care- I'm sure they can help you.

No i can't see it being locked down jav because like i said i can log on(ipod) when security is disabled on both and i can see my IP address on the ipod.

when i turn back on security router does/says nothing that i can see?? just ipod fails to lock on.

if that answers your q i hope.

Yes router was rest,BUT i do not think it's on the router end because my other computer works fine,just the ipod and router can't agree on a security setting.

Well if you turn security back on and it doesn't work, then some security setting is locking out the iPod.

What do the logs on the router indicate?

Either you've not entered a key correctly, or it's something other than a key issue, such as having a list of known MAC addresses, etc.

Without seeing the logs from the router, we are all just guessing.

I can understand not wanting to post actual logs, but you can post error messages from the logs cutting out any identifying information such as real live IP addresses, etc.
 
If I understand what he's saying, he's saying when security is turned off, the iPod Touch works, can access the net, etc. When he turns security back on, he is unable to get an IP addr, access the net, etc.

Is that the case?
 
I have an 2nd generation 8GB iPod Touch, and a Belkin G wireless router set to WPA2 security. It works fine. Sounds like for some odd reason, your iPod Touch doesn't like your router. Maybe try setting your router to WPA2 security, then reset the Network settings on the iPod Touch. Just a thought. Wish I could offer you more help.
 
Make sure you get the letters correct for the key.

There is a difference using caps or not.

ABC123 is different than abc123.

Both of my Ipod touch 8 gig work great (will not say the same but #@$^! Itunes) with WPA2 security. I do NOT broadcast my SSID.

Check that MAC filtering is not turned on or else enter the MAC address of your iPod. It will only let known MAC addresses connect.
 
Thank you every one for your good ideas and posts appreciate it!, i called Apples help line and he showed me how to reset the network settings on the ipod,i did that then reinstalled router info and security settings in the ipod and it works now.

dunno what happen or why now it works vs before but i'm good i got WPA activated.
 
One other thing i find disappointing is you can't use abode flash player on these to watch vids,utube is fine only vids available to watch from what im told.

Same with the Ipad. No flash. While I liked somethings on my Ipod Touch I just gave it to my kid as I can no longer handle Itunes and such.

Just got a Netbook (a lot larger than a Ipod) but was using the Ipod more with the apps. I've got a excellent Sandisk Mp3 player that is much easier to use than the Ipod.

Using the Netbook for streaming stuff that I used the Ipod for. A Ipad in someways would work but with no flash and !@#%^#! Itunes plus the cost = not happening.

Thanks bill she's happy now, yea nice little units despite that little flaw and yes that Itunes can be a nightmare for sure.
 
What is it about iTunes that you guys don't like? I use iTunes frequently, and I love the software.
