Will this work so I can hook up my Ipod to my home stereo receiver aux port? It looks like it should, but I am extremely ignorant with electronics. Thanks.
I'd get a ipod line-out adapter that uses the charging port which taps into the actual amp of the iphone/ipod and not use the HP out jack. You will see big improvement in SQ as well as output (you will have to control the volume via the receiver though - but the clarity of the sound is amazing compared to the cheap-sound HP output)

Interesting. I was going to comment on the fact that the wire in the OP is 25'. Seems excessively long, and I know the time I tried running on a long headphone to RCA cable like that I was VERY disappointed by the sound characteristics.
Yep - direct Line out is the way to go; night/day compared to HP out.
(and if you're worried you can't charge while listening, SendStation makes a dongle that fits the Line out jack but has an Audio out AND you can still charge):
