iPhone 14 vs 17?

My (youngest) daughter just yesterday got a 17e. What are a few top differences from a standard 14 => 17/18?

I ask this way because my 14 battery is struggling a bit. New battery or 17e or ??
No idea, sorry. I want to say, they're all just adding more cameras and not much else. BUT... software updates end eventually so keeping for 10 years isn't a great idea. My guess, pay to have a new battery put in, and it'll be good for a few more years, then upgrade when that battery gives up. Cheapest path.

I bought a refurbished iPhone 14 on Amazon for my wife 2 months ago.
It was in new condition including the battery. It was $315.
It may be the last iteration to use the lightening cable to charge. I believe the 15 went to USB-C.

A 14 certainly has all the features I ever need and I don't need or want a LARGER PHONE
I don't like the big phones. I'm strictly Android...still with my Pixel 7a because it still performs flawlessly and is as big as I want a phone to be. I'm tempted to get a Pixel 10a for $250 it's a screaming deal and I think it's almost exactly the same size as my 7a. Bigger isn't better to me for phones

iPhone 17e with larger battery coupled to more efficient processor. Battery life will be few hrs longer .

I had a 14 max pro and liked it. the battery needed to be replaced and verizon offered a screaming deal on the 17 pro max that I couldn't pass up. I would not go back...battery lasts forever and better photos..it is a bit bigger but you get used to that. my wife has the 17 pro and she likes hers as well.

Daughter (who's in college) managed to kill her iPhone. No idea why but it won't power on. I guess the wife has been thinking it was time for a new phone anyhow? but now the phone has forced the issue. Anyhow, wife found a refurb 14 on Amazon for $460 and apparently a new 17e is $600. I know next to nothing about these phones but I'm thinking it's best to go new. Warranty and most likely to last longer (maybe). Thoughts? The daughter isn't hard on things--but has the worst luck with electronics (stuff just quits working).

On a side question, how do these electronic SIM cards get switched between phones? Do you have to go to whatever Apple uses for a web portal? My iPhone has a tray for the SIM and IIRC I was able to switch to a nano SIM last time I changed phones, but I guess next time I upgrade I'll have to understand this a bit more.
See if she can get a free phone deal. Check Consumer Celluar.
