Maybe make your software more efficient instead? Have your screen use less energy? This is crazy. Pretty soon it won’t be an option, you’ll only be “allowed” to charge your phone between 8-10pm, and if your phone is dead outside of this, you’re SOL.

I never charge my phone battery above 50% anyway. Your battery will last almost indefinitely if you don't keep your battery full.
I've always been skeptical of this. If you only charge it 50%, then you're charging it twice as often. Whatever battery longevity you save by not charging it up completely, you lose by charging more often. Perhaps you can explain or give a reference I can read.

I always thought keeping it between 30%-80% were the magic numbers.
Some laptops stop charging at 95% in order to improve battery longevity. That makes sense, that the last 5% is non-linear.

What if I need more than a 50% charge for the day? It is more about full discharge cycles. Topping up doesn't hurt much compared to running them completely dead. You might be doing more damage running it dead and then charging to 50% unless you are near a charger all the time or don't use your phone much.

Depth of discharge is a major factor.
 
My dishwasher has a delay function so I can let it run at (for example) 1am when power demand is low. There's no financial incentive for me to do this, but I do it anyway because it makes sense for me to do what I can as a user of the system. Also the dishes have time to cool before I have to unload it while I'm making coffee in the morning, so win-win.

If it's full at 2pm and I need to run it so it's not a problem at/after dinner, I run it at 2pm.
 
I believe iOS accommodates this with a charging program that adapts to your schedule of usage and charging.
Yes, it does, if you let it.

It seems to be working because my one year old phone is still at 99% battery health.

I've read that there are a few factors that greatly affect lithium-ion batter life. I believe @JHZR2 can contribute to this discussion as well.

  • The higher the voltage the more chemical degradation occurs in the battery.
  • The greater the depth of discharge the more chemical degradation occurs in the battery.
  • Heat also speeds the chemical degradation of the battery.
The number of times you charge the battery from say 35% to 45%, which is what I do, isn't a factor. If I were charging the battery from 35% to 100%, then the high voltage in the battery would be a factor.

If you need more than 50%, then you charge to whatever level you need. I have the ability to keep the battery at whatever level I want. Yes, running a lithium ion batter completely dead, then recharging means a greater depth of discharge and shorter battery life. However, from what I understand if you are going to store a lithium ion battery, it is best to store it completely discharged to slow the growth of dendrites as much as possible.

I keep the charge level between 35% and 45%, I know it's a bit over the top, but my battery will far outlast my phone. My current work iPhone is 3.5 years old and the battery health is still 100%.

I wish Android had a feature by default that allowed you to set a charge limit, I have accubattery on my phone, I try not to let my phone go below 20% and at 80% Accubattery will chime and remind me to unplug the phone. On every laptop that I've had that had the option to limit charging. I've used it, since I mostly use my laptop plugged in, I'll set it to charge up to 70-80% max and only charge when it gets below 40-50% depending on what the particular manufacturer allows, before this was a common feature I toasted a few laptop batteries always charging them to 100%.
 
I've had an iphone 13 for a year now and I just checked battery health and it's still at 100%. I am a moderate user but nothing crazy. I typically charge it every second night from 20-40% to full.
