Internet purchased tire ages

When I get new tires, I plan on letting Discount Tire try to match the delivered prices I find online, and I hope they can get the tires I want.

But If DT cannot meet it or acquire the tires I want, or I do not like the sales rep, I will consider on online tire store.

As my current tires need to be replaced due to sidewall cracking/age versus treadwear, I want the freshest tire possible.

I do not want to find that the tires that are delivered are 14 month and 16 months old at the time of purchase, like my current set were.

Has anybody any experience as to tire age when purchased online?

There are many America Tire locations in CA, the same company with DT. I got the lowest price on Yokohama AVID Touring-S from onlinetires.com with local pickup in Cerritos, California 90703 for not paying shipping. America Tire matched that price without problem.

A lot of it has to due with how popular of a tire it is. Of course faster moving more common tires are going to have a later dot production. That being said, tires have a shelf life of about 7 years. A year old fresh tire should not give you any problems.

Instead of placing the order on line, call them and specifically tell them that you will send them right back if they're older than 1 year. If they laugh at you, hang up and call a different tire company.

Personally though, I've never received anything older than 1 year, and I did buy quite a few sets of tires on line. However, if you're buying some discontinued tires, then it is quite possible that old stock is all they have left...

It's been within a couple months both for kumho car tires in a common size and a Shinkyo motorcycle tire!

I think cheap= fast moving stock.

I must say that the tires that I have purchaced online through, thetirerack, discounttiredirect and treadpot, have MFG dates within a couple of months of my order dates. Many tires(all 4)have been exactly the same while others were different by the matter of weeks. As the number on the sidewall of the tire that represents the week and year of MFG. For example, 2610...This would mean that the tire was MFG'd during the 26th week of 2010 and so on!

My orders from tirerack have been only a couple weeks old. The last set I bought from Sams was 3 weeks old, and they sat in the store for a few days.

I see Summitt has pretty good prices on tires, says the tires will be shipped from the manufacturer, and only charges 12.95 shipping and handling.

If they get shipped from the manufacturer, that'd be your best bet probably as far as age. I bought a set of Michelin Cross Terrain SUV tires from Sam's a month or so ago, and was worried about the tires' age, since they're not all that popular of a tire. The two oldest tires were 6 weeks old, then one tire was 3 weeks old, and one tire was made the very previous week. I was very happy with that.

Get the best price online includes shipping, print a copy, go to DT (or AT) to get price match. Buying tire and installation at 1 place will be easier when you need to claim mileage warranty.

Thanks again, I am still undecided as to which tire I want, and If I will be getting LT tires( no mileage warranty) or p/xl tires which do. I have about 65K miles on my current 8 year old LT's whose p/xl equivalent were rated for 50k. Still have over half the tread left.

I'm a little short of fundage at this point but just want to be ready when I next earn enough.

DT/AT is who I hope to buy/ install them from.

Good luck. We have purchased 4 sets of tires in the last 3 months from Discount Tires Direct online and had no problems.

I specifically took one older set of Michelin LTX's as they were a great deal on a discontinued tire, but they were still "young".

I would simply ask, as they should reveal the dates to you easily or you need to shop elsewhere.

Goodyear Assurance Comfort Tread Tourings were about 2 months old from DT retail location. 3 were the same week 1 was within a month. Interestingly,only 1 tire needed a balance weight,and the weight was the smallest I've ever seen.

2 of the 5 tires I am considering are not carried by DT, but Somebody on this site told me they can order any tire I want. I'll have to go chat with the manager, with a couple print outs in hand.

Not at my local AT store, I asked if they could order the Nexen tire, a week later the manager called to let me know they could not order the Nexen.

DT can order tires not on their website but on their online DTD site.

Buying tires on the internet doesn't always add up to savings after they are installed by a local shop. At my old place of employment I used to buy tires from a wholsaler and go to the company garage to mount and balance the new set on my lunch hour. I no longer have that luxury so I have found that simple bartering at Discount tire is the way to go. Yes they special order most tires. I know that they told me no ordering of Firestones. Other than I put Coopers on my Maxima, Kumhos on my Esteem, and vibrating Yokohama 80,000 mile tires on my Sentra all in the last year. They love me there

I've bought from Discount Tire Direct a few times, tires were never more than a couple months old.
