My 17 year old son inherited my car geek gene. When he rides in the Mazda he asks when I'm finally going to buy a really fast car. My reply? "Soon, I hope."

Not surprising since most kids give away every $ they earn or beg from mommy on useless junk, like latest I-phone gadget/4G plan or want to go away on junket to foreign land because their friends are going on junket, etc

My nephews and nieces are like this, BIL and SIL are broke but waste all kinds of money on the kids. One went to Italy on junket and the other to Spain. The other went to baseball camp for the umpteenth time in Fl. None of em work. and could never afford a car let alone the mainteance, insurance, gas. Of course it will be a wake up call if and when they get out of college and have to buy a car LOL I predict they will be living with mommy and daddy for a long time since they have no work ambition and expect the parents to pay for everything. One is attending local libtard college here in Maine and was arrested at a party for underage drinking. I am sure if he graduates it will be with useless Lib arts degree. So he will have becoup debt and lousey job prospect so he wont be buying anything for a while.

They may be horrible drivers, but if they don't start young, they'll just end up being really bad adult drivers.

It's also really inconvenient to not drive or not have a car in a place where public transportation is non-existent. Also, when I was a teenager (8 years ago) I couldn't wait to drive myself to school instead of taking the school bus or waiting for my parents to pick me up after school.

I had my license suspended for a little over a year when I was in college, nothing serious mind you, just points on my license that snowballed.

That was definetly a low point in my life, carrying a full course load, working a part time job, and living off campus. It was major hassle depending friends and family for rides and I'd never want to go through that again.

I can't imagine why anybody would want to limit themselves like that willingly.
