Interesting rifle- Henry AR7

ArmaLite AR-7 version in 1963 with James Bond...how can it be bad???...

Bill

Given how poor a weapon the Walther PPK I had was, I'm not so sure Jimmy is my reference of what's good.

The AR7 has been around a long time, since I was a kid I remember one of the guys had one at the creek it seemed positively space age compared to my 39A.

Bought a few guns about 9 years ago...my first and only AR15, a 1911, a Taurus 65, a Bersa Thunder .380(a regrettable purchase) and a kind of unique rifle, a Henry AR7. I'm no prepper but I liked the concept of the thing. You can fit the entire thing in any backpack or the spare tire well of any car. When the butt plate/pad is in place, it's allegedly waterproof and it floats.
It's got what appears to be a junky peep sight...but the thing is amazingly accurate for a .22 rifle. Even I can shoot the X ring out at 25 yards... easily and consistently.
It came with 2 8 rd magazines and I just ordered 2 more.
Anybody else have or shoot one?

Had one. Loved it. It was surprisingly accurate. I wish I had not sold it.

As a boy in the 70's, I wanted a BB gun. Mom said okay, dad said nah, let's get him a .22 rifle. I said yay dad! I know for sure it's not Henry branded, and I'm pretty sure it's Charter Arms. I think they were made under several different brands.

Had lots of fun with it but it eventually started having feed problems, as many do. I think it has to do with the magazine but never dug into it to figure it out. I still have it so maybe one day I'll take the time to do that.

Yay Dad!

I had 3 types of BB guns before graduating to independent ownership and access to powder based weapons.
6-7 spring " Red Rider" type.
7-10 pump - daisy 880 / sheridan / benjamin, and a single break air piston - Beeman.
11- and up - 22 rifle.

At the crossover point as a kid between BB/ pellet and 22, I often stayed with the bb for cost purposes.

As a kid I was splitting money between several sources real " full on" 22 was much more expensive on a cost per shot basis, and with the ability of the powerful air rifles to take small game and rodentia but most often just plinking the added cost and firepower and noise in the city were simply not needed or desired.

Here I am Christmas day 77 at 11 with my present - A Chrome Rossi pump 22 (Winchester clone).

I've had the original ArmAlite AR-7 for quite some time. The rifle has never malfunctioned and is indeed fun to shoot. I've only fired CCI Mini-Mag ammunition through it. In later years I've refrained from taking it out very often out of concern for the stock and but cap being seemingly fragile in comparison to today's synthetics.

The rifle is more accurate than the sights and my aging eyes can live up to.

I'm curious, how reliable is it for you?

The AR-7 has a reputation for being extremely unreliable at feeding. That is, until Henry finally started working on improving the quality of the gun several years ago. Now, the reliability is on par with what they got in the Paul Harrell video. So I'm curios how yours is.
I have an AR-7 as of about a year or so and am loving it so far. It has yet to malfunction except for faulty ammo (which is unfortunately too common in .22 LR, even with the CCI ammo I mostly use in it). As already said, it's quite accurate and I love the concept of its design. Very easy to take down and store in a compact place (mine sits in its box on top of other guns in my safe). The newer Henry magazines have a somewhat better design than the older ones.

Any malfunctioning of the AR7...at least the Henry variant, is due to the magazine and/or the .22 ammunition in it.
I've added a Taurus TX22 TORO to help me shoot through my inventory of .22 ammunition. The Henry, a Taurus M94 9 shot and my Ruger 10/22... even with the 25 round magazines wasn't doing it.
