In another thread, a poster mentioned how Goldwings are super cheap. I looked around and I wasn't shocked at what I found.

2008 Harley-Davidson ultra glide classic 23,000 miles $14,500
http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/mcy/4611017253.html

2006 Harley Davidson Electra Glide, 8,000 miles $12,500
http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/mcy/4565470861.html

2004 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glide - $9633 (dealer)

2009 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glide - $14737 (dealer)

2006 Honda Goldwing - $11500

2006 Honda Goldwing - $13750

2001 HONDA GOLDWING 1800 - $8000 (dealer with 106,000 MILES)

2005 HONDA GOLDWING - $13200

Just so our European moto fans aren't left out.
BMW K1600 GTL - 2012 $20000

It would appear that everyone was wrong. Some said Harleys were a better deal because they held their value more. Some said Harleys were over priced. Some said Goldwings were really cheap. It would appear the Goldwings hold their value just as good if not better than Harley. Just sharing some real info, instead of half truths to push an agenda.

The Harley touring bikes do smooth out. I have owned two Electra Glides and have put over 100k miles on the two. Great bikes for long distance riding. I have been looking for another one as of late and it looks like there are some great deals out there.

Those two bikes are the most popular touring bikes made. Each one has it's good and bad points. For me, riding a wing is like driving an accord with no top, comfortable, reliable and smooth, riding a harley is like, well, riding a motorcycle. I own and prefer the harley ( ultra classic ), but won't step on a Wingman for his choice.

To discuss retention of value we have to know the original pricing... Disregarding the asking vs getting prices issue... I think a similar equipped Wing was more expensive than an Electra Glide.

A new Wing with ABS and Nav is more expensive than any Non CVO and Non Trike Harley.

Not really sure what the point of a local market analysis is or why you guys couldn't just be happy for the guy about his new bike.

Right on , if they are over loan value , they won't sell . Just watch and learn and that includes Harleys !

And even they have different values listed for the same vehicles. What they post are the "average " prices people paid for a give type of vehicle.Mostly just a guide to give you an idea what any given vehicle should be selling for. Those prices are not carved in stone.,,

If you go to a dealer and ask what value your trade in will be, the first place he or she will look is from the NADA book every dealer in the country has. They will not turn to they're computer and see what they're selling for on Craigslist. The NADA does list different values from rough high mileage to clean wholesale to clean retail etc.

CL is indeed a horrible basis for looking at market value. There is a bloke in my area that is trying to sell an old Suzuki gt750 "water buffalo" 2 stroke touring bike for 8k when the NADA shows that in excellent condition it is worth roughly half that, and his is at best in very good condition.

NADA is better than KBB to accurately gauge used vehicle prices in your area. I know it was closest to what we sold used vehicles for at the dealership I worked at 4 years ago. We also factored in how flooded the market was in our area with particular used models to price our vehicles. Obviously if the area is flooded with a certain year/model then you have to price it more competitively to move it.

In 1976 myself, my boss and the other guys I worked with all bought new bikes. I bought a new 76' goldwing (for $2750 including TT&L, engine guard, sissy bar and two new helmets.) The boss, Jessey got a new left-over 75' electra glide, Larry got a 76 bicentennial superglide, and Elmer got a water buffalo. That water buffalo would run circles around all the other bikes including my 1000cc goldwing.

Some comments were made in other threads about different bikes and prices. Some of the comments were outright lies. I just wanted to show that despite ones loyalty or disdain for a brand, the models remain pretty close in price, new and used.

If you notice, some of the ads are from dealers. Since they don't want bikes sitting on the floor from being over priced, I think they reflect a fair market price. Like you said, they price them from the NADA book.

I sold my 1989 Harley E/G classic in 1994 for $1,500 more than what I paid for it and when I sold it, it had over 40,000 miles on it. Back in those days Harley had a waiting list for new bikes. Fast forward 20 years and the used Goldwings are selling for as much as two thousand dollars more than a comparable used Harley E/G.

Except NADA don't list my 94 Honda RVF750R / RC45 whereas KBB does... however they currently do not have pricing for this model...

NADA did not list my father's bike either, that is because it was not originally sold in the USA. Somehow he got an old Canadian Suzuki. lol

Who gives a rat's @ss what it's worth. Ride what you want, roll on the miles and wear that puppy out. Extract from it all it has to offer. Then buy another one and repeat. On your death bed, look back on a life well lived and not one pre-occupied with dollars and cents.

Based on the immature bickering I see in these threads, there's a lot of people worried about a lot of stupid things. Makes no sense to me.
