I received this filter from a Rockauto purchase many months ago. Wasn't expecting something so "vintage" but at least it's not an E-core. Finally got the nerve to use it, looks to be a decade old or more. I remember searching the box for a copyright date or some indication of age, but didn't find any. Filter states "Made in England." It's a PH3985 equivalent-- 20mm x 1.50 threaded filter that fits applications using a PH7317 (tiny filter common on Nissan & Hondas, the PH3985 is much larger). Used this on my Honda Odyssey for 7.5k using PUP 5w-40 Euro.
Haven't ever opened a filter with this construction before-- there is no metal shell inside, just heavy, thick pleats stuffed into the outer can. Ignore the crimp on the metal tube, I had to use a pair of pliers to pull that sucker out of the can.
FWIW, ADBV was in great condition, paper was stiff but not brittle. Everything was in as good a condition as one would expect a used filter to be in. The bypass valve was different-- it's supported by a leaf spring, but one that clicks in and out. When you put the required pressure on it, it clicks to fully open, release some pressure and it clicks closed. Can was quite thick, great construction overall I'd say. Anyone seen or used one of these before?
