And I love it! Set it off tonight.

I was in the left lane doing 70 and traffic was completely stopped ahead, had to speed up to clear the car next to me so I could change lanes. Car panicked and put a giant red !BRAKE! in the DIC, muted the stereo and sounded the loudest beeps you've ever heard. I safely changed lanes and it immediately quieted down and never tried to interfere. Had I have not been paying attention, it would have stopped the car, but it didn't know if I was looking at the road or texting.

After driving with the FCA system for 3+ years, I'm impressed. They incorporate a radar in the lower air dam and a camera in the windshield next to the rearview mirror, and it does a good job of knowing when to alert and self brake. I've never had a false alert or brake in 80k miles.

I have a similar system on my Tundra. Toyota calls it "TSS". Occasionally I would get a flash of the "BRAKE!" warning in orange when a car in front was slowing to turn and I maintained speed, but the vehicle hadnt braked on its own and I kind of adjusted my driving after I learned what triggers it. A few weeks ago though, driving through a crowded park where a festival was taking place, about 10 mph, nothing in front and cars parked to the sides the truck decided it needed to stop. And it did so in a quickened hurry. Nothing harmed besides crazy looks from witnesses. I now turn it off when driving in such situations. All in all I would rather it not have it. Something uncomfortable about the vehicle having that ability with no input from me.

I avoided getting the Mercedes Distronic but have the radar that warns audibly. It will warn on certain spots on specific roads for no reason. It's an entertaining moment to try to figure out why. Maybe these are portals to a different dimension.

I'm gonna take a pass on this stuff. If you need the car to stop for you you also need it to drive.
