Maint dose OK if say a Group III syn (I use it that way when I remember, which isn't often these days) but I never use it with oil containing ester after personal testing.

I've never used it that way, but the general rule as I recall it is that you can use it on any oil for the duration of the OCI. Essentially it's functional for 10k if you're doing a 10k OCI. That makes sense since its main carrier is a POE. The FM component will still do it's FM thingie.
There you're not displacing anything that's already taken up residence.
For me it's like perpetual fuel treatments. It's not in my DNA. I've tried to figure some homegrown McGyver version of the Marvel Mystery Inverse Oiler ..except metering it into the fuel system so the injectors could benefit. Something with a reservoir. I'm also of the belief that this would only be necessary if you've got some known issue that you're trying to prevent. In terms of a fuel system, I surely would.
Let's say some engine was prone to HLA noise in advanced mileage. The condition is widely reported across a broad span of users. There you've got a decent case for preemptively doing such things. That might be cheaper and less troublesome than doing some unknown shorter OCI to accomplish that.
Think of how much ATF has been sold due to trans failure paranoia. Chrysler, probably single handedly, sold more AFT out of some fear factor than was (probably) sold in trans overhauls due to failure. The effect still lingers.

I thought as a maint dose it was good with synthetic oil, and mixed with any synthetic oil. Had I been told otherwise I would have only bought enough for the two clean rinse cycles I did.

The Arx problem as I see it;
I first heard about Arx on this site, Many people were VERY enthusiastic about it, I thought I might 'give it a go'
I thought I could just go to the local Auto store and buy some, then I find out I had to order from it's only supplier Frank!
Well that's a bit of a hassle, but if people go to that trouble, it must be good!
So I get on the Arx site, and it looks kind of Hokey (this stuff must be GOOD)
Man, It's expensive! (but it MUST be good!)
Shipping is expensive, (But people go to this trouble and rave about it, it must be good.
I order, (Group purchase , I talk friends into trying some)receive it, and (I admit) by now, my expectations a high.
Time goes on, I follow the instructions 'to the letter' Clean, First flush, second flush, No real changes. During this time I contact Frank, I DON'T get a sympathetic response.
I'm beginning to feel I have been 'had'
But I decide to push ahead with a second treatment and contact Frank again, I'm getting snappy, and Frank responds (as you can imagine)
This is now quickly getting personal!
The rest of this story is now History.
At some point it dawned on me not to get drawn-in and allow this to escalate out of all proportion.
The thing is: If I had picked the bottle off the shelf at an Auto store for $5, My expectations would not have been so high, and I had received ANY positive results, I would have proberbly raved about the product.
