Installing garage door opener?

Thanks again for all the help on this one. Not to drudge up an old post but just on an off chance I read on the Home Depot website a few days ago they had a half horse Genie Belt Drive opener on sale for $153.00. HD also honored my Lowe's 10% off coupon. I paid $138.00 plus the Genie unit came with 2 remotes. I would have had to spend another $35.00 on a second remote had I bought the Chamberlain unit at Lowe's. I used my other Lowe's coupon for $10.00 off a $50.00 purchase to buy myself a new 8 foot ladder. 8 foot aluminum step ladder for $53.00 is a really good price. It came in really handy in the opener installation and I will have lots of other use for it later.

It took me about 8 hours over the course of 2 days to install and wire in the opener, safety beam sensors, door switch and electrical connection. Once I got it all adjusted and programmed, it works like a charm. The unit runs very smoothly and is really quiet. I think the sale price at HD was good through tomorrow or Sunday if anyone needs a new opener.

Thanks again for all the help.

Glad it worked out for you!

I need to bring this one back from the dead. The remotes on my openers are going bad, and there are no replacements available anymore for these model remotes. The solution from the remote companies is a $50+ remote control kit, which then has to have its own power, etc.

For that price, Im thinking it may be best to replace.

Ours are both sears chain drive. One is 1/3 hp and the other 1/2, IIRC, may be 1/4 and 1/3. Anyway, as I understand it, Sears is Chamberlain, and Chamberlain is available at Lowe's.

So, if I was to acquire a Chamberlain opener from lowe's, with the same power rating, what are my chances of being able to just swap the motor housing and control pad?

Thanks!

I swapped two broken 1/2 HP Sears motors for another Sears motors few years ago, I kept all old rails and mounting brackets without problem. If the Chamberlain opener is similar to Sears then you should not have any problems.

after you get it installed and are testing it for fit, dont cycle it to much at once. ie its NOT 100% duty. it will blow up cap, or elect motor.
