Back in November we bought a new to us gently used Ford Explorer for the wife. I also happened to buy a very used high mileage 2018 F-250. Today I finally got around to installing the filter minders for the engine air filters. Easy peasy. I love nerdy stuff like this. Both vehicles have a fomoco air filter in now. I put the truck one in myself. I'm not sure if the dealer replaced the filter back in November or not. It's a Ford one but it has a bunch of crap in it already so I'm gonna replace it to get a baseline.

They are neat and tell you exactly when the pressure differential is at the point of filter replacement time. My 06 Sierra Denali (6.0L) had that from the factory. I never bothered to even check it lol - just replaced my filters at the 30k mile marks.

I dont like putting holes in the clean side of the airbox/pipe. But a good idea for vehicles seeing rough service, offroad (or live on dirt road etc)

Definitely got to make sure to get the plastic shavings out of there when you do it but the rubber grommet fits pretty tight so I don't worry about unfiltered air. I have one in my Mazda that didnt move from the initial setting when new for 70k miles. Saved some money on not replacing filters unnecessarily.

Took an 80 mile road trip today with a couple of full throttle runs on the highway. That little 4 cylinder has some power. Initial restriction is 8" of water.

Similar to above, my 2004 Silverado had one of these from the factory. It never moved in 50k miles. For fear it was broken I just ignored it. That 04 really was a neat truck in some ways. Had an air filter minder and a magnetic drain plug as OEM. My 24 has a digital air filter %life change indicator, but I cant say what method of filter evaluation it uses. I have 36k miles on my truck and it still shows like 70 some % on it, so it makes me think its not just a mileage counter.
