I have too. Kaspersky and ESET Online Scanner go absolutely nuts when I let them have at it.

MSSE is a nice distraction though.

For me, free AV is OK, but when I can get a customer's desktop and two other machines protected with Kaspersky/ESET AV or Internet Security for about $40 a year, I don't bat an eyelash.

MSE is junk it catches nothing(basically)

microsoft has abandoned it.

no way, what is an alternate?

Every time I ever tried BitDefender it always seemed kind of buggy. It has high ratings. BitDefender is often rated number one at various antivirus testing websites. Because it was so highly rated I wanted to use BitDefender but I just could not put up with how buggy the software seemed to be.

Actually ESET NOD32 is a little buggy but it works. And the ESET online scan is great! I highly recommend the free ESET online scan for anybody who wants to make sure their computer is clean.

Another program I really like is Malwarebyte's Antimalware. It is a great backup program to make sure your computer is clean of malware. I just use the free version.

I wish that Microsoft's MSEs and Windows Defender were good programs. But I just can't recommend them.

I have moved away from Kaspersky. It is good software but there are too many problems right now between Russia and Europe and the USA.

Norton and McAfee are hopeless.

So that pretty much leaves either ESET or TrendMicro for me.

Avast free is the best in my opinion.

I have tried several paid and free anti-virus programs over the years starting back in around 1995.

I am using Bitdefender on 4 computers. 3 running Windows 8.1.1 and one Windows 7. All are 64 bit versions.

No issues and what I like is Bitdefender does not pole the computer like other versions.

Too Bitdefender gets high marks and the free version is not talkative like some other free versions.

Plenty of decent free alternatives out there: Avast, Avira, AVG, BitDefender, etc.

What do you find buggy about it? I'm using it on one Win7 machine, and it seems to work just fine.

Bitdefender is really hit or miss.. some people no problems..

some people totally unusable

I'd recommend eset if you shop around its not hard to find

free after rebate or 5-10$ 3-4 times a year
