You might be surprised. There are 2 vehicles I've serviced that were not appropriate for the MityVac; a 2002 Silverado 1500 and an older Subie.I can definitely see a mighty-vac leaving oil behind under most circumstances. The engine would have to be an absolute straight shot from the fill tube or dip-stick tube to the deepest part of the pan, or else its impossible to not leave oil behind, more than normal that is.
I tested our GS350 V6... I sucked out the oil, then pulled the plug, jacked one side of the car to put the pan at the optimal spot and let it drain. This is far more that Lexus, a shop or most DIY people would do. Less than 1/2 cup came out drop by drip. And the oil was hot; some of that was probably oil that drained back to the pan.
Top side extraction does not work for every vehicle, for sure. But it is a lot better than I originally thought. At least for the cars I use it on.
IMO, the ease of use has made the MityVac a great tool for services. I've even serviced cars on Christmas morning after getting cleaned up!
