Napa ProSelect 21522, new, never used (although it did sit in my tool box for ~4 years)

Note the spiral core... I believe the spiral core is an older (~4yr old) design for this ProSelect filter - I bought a new one last week and it did not have the spiral core. The Napa Golds still have the spiral tube.

the reason I cut it open - the end got a bit rusted while sitting in my truck's tool box for ~4 years. (I suspect that I got some seepage in from the bolt holes when some snow melted).

Overall, not bad for a ~$3.00 filter - Cheaper than Frams and Ecores!

Good design for an inexpensive filter. My recently opened NPS was similar. They have the traits of a filter you can trust. I'd use them with confidence.

Yeah I know that now, and the $3.00 loss has driven me into financial ruin ; )

At least now I know for sure - I'd trust these over any other sub-$5 filter on the market. Maybe I'll cut open a new orange can and a new BCOD to compare.

Anybody wanna loan me $6.00?

Now why someone wouldn't want to run a cheaply priced good built filter like this NPS vs. a escrap is beyond me.

good little filter

Some are, most are still US made, Fortunentally. I wont use a pro-select if its made in Mexico or China when I can get a cheap american made one at wally land. Anyhow, I got two proselects from the napa rebate in my garage ready to use!

Purolator Classic is $3.50, and if you cut one open and compared you'd probably see it's better than this NAPA filter.

If you are so sure of that, why don't you? I actually coughed up over $10 to buy a Classic and STP and mail them to River Rat. He agreed with me that there was little difference. The Classic is a run of the mill filter.

that filter is exactly like the ProTec, also made by wix. i would not recommend this filter to anyone. if you spread that media apart and hold it up to a light you can see hundreds of holes where the comes through. i have done this test on numerous other filters and have never seen anything as bad as the Protecs i cut open. fwiw, they WERE labeled Made in USA

I can tell by just looking at the media and amount of pleats in the photo of the NAPA Pro-Select filter that a Classic would compare better without a doubt. You think that Made in China NAPA filter is 97.5% @ 20 microns? I doubt it.

We aren't talking about an STP here. Wasn't that STP you sent river_rat a Classic in disguise?

Actually...

Purolator Classics are advertised at 97.5% @ 40 microns based on test data from the L30001.

Why do you say at 40 microns? Purolators says at 20 microns.Purolator classic

Classics that are smaller are probably pretty close to that as well.

I have cut open ProTecs and I have never been able to see through any of them.

Wrong ... ONLY 4 of the spin-ons are @ 40 microns; ALL others are at 20 microns. Same deal with the PureONEs.

Do some thread searching for this info if you want to know specifically which 4 Purolators those are ... it's been posted more than once. Hint - they are the smallest sizes.

So your opinion is based on what you use. My truck calls for an L10193. I haven't anything to show I should buy one of those over an STP 3950. Purolators are nothing special.

Because that's what it says on the box of every Purolator Classic I've ever purchased. Notice how the website refers to test data from the PL30001? On the Classic box (at least for the L14610) it says "*Based on ISO 4548-12 at 40 microns on L30001." The website used to use this same footnote data for all Classics. Guess they decided to compare everything to the PureOne.
