*eak Oil. It's a very intersting subject that sorta belongs on an interesting oil Forum. I know there is at least one forum dedicated to it on the net, and likely others, but I'd like to hear more from guys here, who I respect. Yesterday, I decided to click on an active topic about it, and was distracted for a minute. When I got back to the computer a minute later, the topic was COMPLETELY gone. After some reading on the subject, I am sure that there is enough expert knowledge here that could maintain an entire Forum of just that one subject (and keep it civilized). Not to just drive the wheels of propaganda, but at ~some~ point it will be an unavoidable issue. Why not be ahead of the curve on it? (pun intended)

Also, maybe some guys who are better at search can post some links to older threads here. Thanks.

Shhh!

Good luck with the suggestion. I thought deleting the entire thread, which had a good, inoffensive, nonpolitical discussion going, was ridiculous; if you have good reason not to like the topic or the direction it's going, lock the thread, but don't delete it. Deletion should be reserved for extreme measures such as name-calling and racist remarks that most BITOGers don't do, not because you don't like someone's honest comments, criticisms, or concerns. But we saw a threat of this with the Veyron thread when I criticized that vehicle and an admin took exception to it.

I wonder what about p**k o*l scares the admins. Could it be the inherent "negativity" surrounding the subject that might scare newbies? (As an irony, I had said I didn't buy the whole scary scenario, but had seen enough to cause concern.) If so, it's time to get over it, because whether you want to play Pollyanna or not, trouble is brewing with long-term fuel supplies. The topic is not political in any meaningful sense, if that was the "reason" to delete the thread. If anything, we must have some discussion about the future of oil and its availability. This is an oil forum, right?

With all that said, I have become increasingly perturbed at the admins' arbitrary censorship (and threats of), so I think it's time to say—later, dude. I've enjoyed my time at BITOG, but it's time to move on.

I think that it doesn't contravene the S in R/S/P, same as greenhouse effect doesn't.

Pity, there should be more S in those topics.

The thread you are citing had a number of political-oriented posts. Things go to the QP forum until they get fixed up, then can be returned.

I agree that there was a lot of good insight in that thread, and it wil return as a good discussion of how to hold off the higher costs of fuel... and related topics. So long as it doesnt move towards politics, global warming, orbashing each other, itll be fine. We just need a focus on the S&T of oil production, economics, trading, and how to keep ourselves in the black.

Its back with the things I considered to be against forum rules taken out. See below in the G&OT, it was listed with its last post's date stamp. It is still titled with the URL of the OP.

Ok instead of a Peak Oil Forum, which would attract even more whackos to BitOG, how about a Forum for Energy Management or Oil Extraction or Resource Development or Ecology or something along those lines?

AU, that's not a bad idea at all! However, I feel that a forum like that will take an inordinate amount of the admin's time by making them closely monitor posts for all the over-the-top political nonsense that a forum like that will attract.
