Looks like I finally discovered why my shipment of Auto-RX never arrived. I placed the order last Thursday and the tracking information said it arrived on Saturday. However, it is now Thursday and I still had not received the package. So, I called DHL and after navigating their maze of menus and voicemails that, I'm sure, was developed in the dark ages as a means of torturing prisoners, managed to (oh my #@$%!!) talk to a real person. Unfortunately, she was not much more helpful than the aforementioned menu system. All I managed to get out of her was that they could not find the address I gave them (yet somehow all the other mail gets there just fine), and my 2 bottles of Auto-RX were being returned to sender. More than a little peeved, I vowed never to buy another product shipped using DHL again, and she actually had the nerve to tell me that would be great, as it would save her the stress of dealing with me in the future. *****.

I already did. I'd rather use snail mail than that service. For what it's worth, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau about DHL. I wish I had gotten that lady's name.

I can tell you a little story about DHL as well. Of course, I wouldn't call this a representative of the company as a whole, because all of my packages have arrived in one piece.

When I went to burger king one afternoon right after I was learning how to drive, there was a DHL van in front of me in the drive-thru line. He ordered at the little microphone and floored it around the corner, going up and over the curb, then under the window to pay. After he paid, he picked up his food (I was behind him, about 2-3 feet from his bumper), he floored it again, this time going up about 10 feet, then flooring it in reverse, just missing my parent's car by about 6 inches. He went up between me and the window, and proceeded to shout some obscenities at the counter help and threw the burger or whatever it was that he ordered, at the person and shouted something about not wanting mayo or something. Then he stormed back over to his truck, floored it again (causing rocks to shoot up towards the car I was in, but luckily only dinging off the bumper and left no damage), and went up and over the grass, front tires on, rear tires still on the pavement. He got out, went inside, and while I was still waiting at the window, you could hear him inside yelling through the drive-thru window that was still open. He eventually left, floored it again (doing a donut in their grass) and up through a section filled with rocks, shooting them all over the parking lot, and flying over the curb out of the restaurant. We called DHL after this incident and they did nothing about the driver, as we saw him again making deliveries (and going about 20mph over the limit) down a road near where I live.

DHL is the worst shipping service in my experience. Ever since regular international Air Mail has been handled by DHL in the US, all the stuff I've been getting from Europe has taken on average not only a few days longer than it used to, but shipping times are totally inconsistent. A small package that officially takes a 5-7 days, takes snow between 4 days and 2.5 weeks. More often than not it takes 10 days or longer.

as someone who works at a dhl drop off location, in the last year we have received an exponential increase in complaints about express packages not being delivered on time.

before that though, they were even more reliable than brown and blue.

This wasn't just not delivered on time, it was returned to sender. Even though the customer service lady, if you can call it service, read off the correct address.

Doesn't DHL contract out to individual companies therefore not having as much control over what happens? I was thinking that the delivery folks are not DHL employees at all, correct? UPS & FedEx delivery guys are actual company employees, right?

Around here DHL, FedEx Express and regular UPS are union. Fed Ex Ground and Fed Ex @ Home are contracted out.

In my experience, UPS is the worst delivery service. DHL, USPS and FedEx have been good to me. UPS, on the other hand, takes a long time to deliver; when the package arrives, it seems that the reason for late delivery was that they've been kicking it all the way from the pick-up location to your door.

I recently had to send an important sample to India via DHL. They hopelessly lost it.

Granted, my experience with shipping is limited, but this incident stuck with me. I wonder what the real world statistics are for the different shipping services.

Around here, UPS is generally excellent, with the usual driver knowing everyone and knowing where to find them, including alternative addresses. FedEx works pretty well too. With all the rest I would prefer the sender just use the Postal Service. They know everyone also. One of the advantages of small town living.

A couple of nights ago I was touring the FedEx hub in Indianapolis - the second largest FedEx hub in the world. The operation was quite amazing. They've got high benchmarks for reliability and know the packages that come in, and leave the facility. The chances of something getting lost are slim.

I was to recieve a package by DHL. It was never delivered. DHL claims they delivered it, but I never recieved it. I think DHL delievered it to my neighbors who never spoke english all that well. My neighbors told me they never saw a DHL package. So... basically someone was lieing to me. Either way, i filled out the claim form supplied by DHL. It's been 7 years now. I never hear from them again.

I hate DHL.

I've only received 1 package from DHL -- and I would never use them as a shipper. My package came from Dallas to KC (straight up I-35 -- 9 hr drive). I tracked it. On the say it was scheduled to arrive, it was sitting somewhere in OH! Huh, why would it go from Dallas --> OH --> KC?

I've had UPS twice deliver an 'Urgent Overnight' envelope to my doorstep which should have been dropped off two blocks north of me (same house address, different street). The first time it happened I wasn't home, I called UPS and told them of the situation, and like a nice guy I delivered it myself. Two days later I was at home and saw the brown truck pull up and saw another 'Urgent Overnight' envelope in the guys hand. I greeted him at the door and lo and behold, it was for the same address two blocks away again. I told him this was the wrong address, he says 'oops' and leaves. Duh..
