Off topic, I was a shutterbug back in the film days. They came out with a capable pocket camera, the "Olympus Stylus" with a cute clamshell closing device. It was both capable and fashionable. Real photographers used them with excellent results. But then the posers got ahold of them and they were spontaneously "not cool" anymore.

It's funny that you mentioned cameras, because I have another story that compares cameras to Infinitis..... The 90s was the heyday of the plastic camera with the faux-metal coating (or paint?) on it. Suddenly everyone was making silver colored autofocus SLRs.... All the brands: Nikon, Canon, Minolta, Pentax, Olympus, etc, etc. Silver metallic-looking plastic cameras were nothing new (the popular Canon AE-1 had it back in the 70s) but it was in the 90s when it was everywhere. But the problem was that with any amount of handling, the silver coating tended to chip and wear off, revealing the plastic underneath. And THAT'S exactly what I think about every time I've been in an Infiniti. Cheap plastic trim with the silver coating chipping off. They ALL did it.

I had an Infiniti 1991 Q45. It had a fuel injected 4,5 liter dohc 32 valve V8. Officially rated at 287 hp, I suspect it was more like 330 hp. The same engine powered some cars sold in Japan where there was a 290 hp limit at that time. Hence, the conservative horsepower figure.

The car was rock solid. I called it "my luxury hot rod". I drove it over 200K miles, only having to replace an exhaust system.

Sadly, I think that was the high point for Infiniti. I had no interest in their later offerings.

It was the Bentley to the Lexus Rolls-Royce, then it lost its way and never recovered. Also that Rodeo like Plaque didn't help either.

My high school friends divorced dad in CA I believe was head designer for them. He got a few cool brand new cars to drive including the M30, G20 and then finally last car Sentra E(mpty) because he kept wrecking them.

New stuff seems like nicer Japanese mainstream maker brand.
