incense - how hard can it be to burn???

Hi,

Yesterday we went to cut down a christmas tree. This is the first year that we are in our house, and so though we will be spending Christmas with the family, we figured we'd get a tree anyhow.

WHile out, we found this really neat incense (which I normally hate), made by paine's in Maine, which is made rom balsam fir, and smelled really good.

Well, Ive tried lighting it, and either it smells like burning wood (instead of thebalsam fir scent that the unburnt ones smell like, and how it smelled at the store), or else it goes out...

I light it until I see a flame on the tip, then hold it with the flame for a few seconds, then blow it out. this is the only way that I can get a consistent glowing end that does not go out shortly thereafter...

But of course it smells less like pine needles and more like wood smoke.

What gives? Any suggestions? THis isnt a stick or cone, theyre more like 2" long 1/4" diameter rods.

Maybe you should buy a roll of charcoal discs. These are used to burn the type of incense that comes in resin or crystal form,like frankincense, copal, etc. and also to burn sandalwood. You light the little disc, put it in a small bowl with sand in it, then place the incense on top of the charcoal.

Don't do it.....it creates alot of soot which will build up on your ceiling and walls.

Not if you use the charcoal and don't overdo it.

warm it to release the aroma without burning
