Of little use to other marques, but Mercedes’ workshop method to ascertain oil quantity is to directly measure its level within the sump.
A ‘measuring gauge’ is inserted into the dipstick/oil extraction tube until it bottoms against the inside of the pan.
The level is then to be read up from there. Doing so eliminates almost all the variables associated with traditional dipstick readings.
+/- a wee bit on oil quantity never seems to matter much on my other cars but you know how those Germans can be.

Without filter 3.6 qt. (3.4 L, 3.0 Imp.qt.)
* The engine oil capacity is a reference quantity to be used when changing the engine oil. Warm up and turn off the engine, wait more than 5 minutes, and check the oil level on the dipstick.
