In the market for a Tablet

Looking at getting a tablet for my wife for the holidays. I'm not looking to spend more then $300. I can get a Ipad mini for $279 OTD. That price range offers a slew of other products that I know are more powerful then the Ipad mini. The tablet will be used for surfing the web, movies, etc.
 
IPad is probably the easier to use, but other ones using Android probably have better technology.

I have Kindle Fire and it does everything I need from a tablet.

But I also use a laptop for 90% of my computing needs.
 
I got the wife a Samsung tab2 7.0 last Christmas, And she loves it.It has good power. The only thing that is weak is the rear facing camera. I think that could be better. They have the tab3 out this year witch is prob better.
 
The thing I like about most Android tablets is you can put a micro SD card in to expand the capacity. You can't do that with Apple products. I think Apple products are nice. Just don't like the idea you have to pay more for bigger gigabites.

I agree but for her usage, we would never need more storage. In my experience apple products have always lasted the distance and Android/windows based products have always failed for given me issues. However I've never spent $1200 on a windows based computer. Our Iphone 5's have been flawless and our previous android phones sucked. Maybe my experience is unique.
 
Owning a regular iPad, I'd prefer the mini or samsung equivalent. IMO it's a bit nicer to handle.

Which is exactly why I'm hesitant to save $100 bucks purchasing something Andriod vs. apple.... The Nexus 7 kills the Ipad mini in specs, but will it still work flawlessly and have good battery life in 2 years?
 
iPad Mini! Especially considering you already own an iPhone. You are already in the Apple Ecosystem. You can buy apps that are supported by both devices, and you know you are buying a quality product.
 
I liked my Nexus 7 version 2. However, after the latest 4.4 "Kit Kat" upgrade, I'm not liking it much anymore. Laggy, noticeably slower, apps drag. Bleeechh. I just got this unit 6 weeks ago, v4.3 was vastly better than 4.4.

And no expandable storage on this unit like other tablets offer.


Stick with the iPad Mini. IMO, it's the best device out there for the price. The Samsung 8" Tab 3 looks real nice too, for a black friday price of $299. More than that price point, isn't worth it IMO
 
What about a HP Touchpad that's been hacked to boot Android?
Seems like the top price is $150 on EBay with accessories, probably closer to $100. You'd get something that's a little behind state-of-art, but is still very useable.
I'd recommend one that uses the wireless charging dock (the Touchstone), as it's just a cool device and should be easy/inexpensive to find bundled.

Interesting. I have the Nexus 7 first generation. The KitKat update made the device feel faster, more natural and more apple like. I actually enjoy using it.

Does it hold up to two years including battery. Yes at least in Asus model with 8GB. I use mainly to consume movies and kids games. I don't like email on any device except a computer(mac, linux, windows, whatever) with a keyboard.
 
You can't beat the new Dell Android tablets for value. The 7" is $149 and the 8" is $179.

I picked up the 8" a few weeks ago and it's a great device. Snappy performance, great display, excellent battery life.

But, it sounds like you're partial to iOS, so you might as well just pick up an Mini and call it a day.
 
Just went and played with all of the tablets at Bestbuy. I feel that 7 inch is to small so looking for 8-10 inch. Not sold on any brand thus far.

I can't even imagine having a 10" tablet these days. They are huge and uncomfortable to hold. I think that the 7-8" tablet is quickly going to become the defacto, most popular size for tablets.
