Apparently in seven years the USA will be number one in oil and natural gas production in the world. I have known for a while this was coming. I know a guy who works on the oil rigs in North Dakota.

Not trying to start that discussion, but same here in NY.

So until that point the oil is secure within our borders? Sweet.

They do allow fracking, in fact they just passed the first regulations on it last month.

Just a few years ago, they were giving land away for free in North Dakota in an effort to stop the outflow of residents. Of course, all those programs have stopped now.

On another note, most if not all of these fields were discovered in the '50's - they simply did not have a way to get the oil out of the ground in those days. It makes you wonder if in the future, they'll be able to get even more oil out of old wells that have been "pumped out" by old methods, but with new methods, they can be opened again and produce even more oil.

The wack job environmentalists aren't done yet. There will be a massive campaign to derail our energy independence. Expect a lot of huge headlines with sensationalized garbage like the 'water on fire' and 'rare bird habitat' type of stuff.

There are rumors that the Saudis are already investigating extraction techniques that can be used on 'old' wells. All eventually run dry.

But it is great news to hear that we may eventually become more secure here, all by ourselves. Maybe then we won't need all that hugely expensive war making equipment for deserts?

Speaking of "water on fire," my wife grew up in eastern Wyoming, (Niobrara County). Her brother worked and lived on a large ranch, (the Boner Ranch). She said if you held a match next to the faucet in the kitchen of his house on the ranch, it would catch on fire. This was back in the late 70's, early 80's and there was an "oil boom" going on in that part of the country during that time, but it was well before "fracking." I'm wondering if it's a common thing out in that part of the country and simply getting more press with the discovery of oil and a new method of extracting oil.
