Flipping through this morning's radio stations trying to avoid any station that mentioned a single peep about Paris Hilton, I heard President Roosevelt's speech from 63 years ago today...it sent shivers down my spine. Then hearing President Reagan's remembrance speech on the 40th anniversary of D-Day did the same.

What's amazing to me is how there's not a mention of this day in today's news papers. Religion and politics are not part of this post, nor part of the radio program I heard, it's simply an honor to be able to go back in time to hear the words coming from the aforementioned Presidents and honor those who died on that fateful day.

Paris Hilton sells. D-Day doesn't. How sad.

Thank you for remembering. The press would never.

Get used to re-written (or just plain wrong) history. Read the article in Newsweek about "after this current admin"......this guy has zero clue.

D-Day TV series started last week. We certainly remember it here but then Australia remembers it's war heroes on a daily basis more so than any other country. You only have to visit an RSL (Returned Services League) club which every town/city has and you'll understand what I'm saying.

True.
This is on my list of top few favorite movies. Might be my favorite.

ToyotaNSaturn,

thank you very much for that link. President Regan's speeches were truly memorable. The new crop of of presidential candidates should be required to listen to them.

CNN and Fox both covered it.

So did my local newspaper, the Gazette. The press covers stories you want to hear, and ones you don't, but you can't complain when you didn't read or hear it.

Dittos. Wathed 3 local newscasts last night, the only peep regarding D-Day was on one station about a soldier who was killed on D-Day and they found his dog tags a few years back. That was about 20 seconds, no joke. Then back to the 'news'.

Good to know that the weather had the full time segment. It's important to talk about the SAME weather pattern for days on end. Sports is really really important, too. We NEED to talk about football this time of year.

The rules of engagement were different in those days. In those days, if you went to war it was to win. A friend's father was one of the few that marched ashore and took the fight to the enemy. We had a dinner in his honor. I felt privileged to have sat at the same table with our neighborhood hero. He became a man that day at 18 years old. D-Day was his birthday. What a way to celebrate a birthday, then and now.
