Pepper Ono is Yoko Ono's cousin.

Peperone is one (pepper), peperoni is plural. Pepperoni is a derived word that has become an acceptable word through usage in English.

The small, spicy salami is called salame in Italy. If you are in Italy, and if you order peperoni, you get small peppers.

Likewise, salame being singular and salami plural.

What is this Italian sandwich?

For the sake of completeness, it is served on a soft submarine roll, consisting of ham, american cheese, diced white onions, green peppers, longitudinally sliced pickles, tomato wedges, I believe olive or cottonseed oil and a healthy dose of black pepper. It does NOT have lettuce or mayo.

As indicated above, aged a few hours makes them better I believe.

Ridiculously simple, but surprisingly better than the sum of the parts.

edit: has none of the italian meats such as salami, piscutto (sp?) or pepperoni
