Today I got a letter in the mail with "Confidential" "Business Mail: Penalty for Tampering" and "Dated Materials - Open Immediately" on the front of the envelope. I open it and it is a sales flyer from the local Chevrolet dealer with whom my only dealings have been purchasing keys and parts for my GP. The letter starts with:
Quote:
[Dealer] Chevrolet is low on pre-owned inventory. Current demand for pre-owned cars, trucks, and SUVs is much higher than supply and we are reaching out to our customers first.
It goes on to say:
Quote:
Used car managers have been authorized to buy back your current vehicle at above-market prices. We aggressively need to acquire several pre-owned 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix by February 17, 2014 in order to fulfill special vehicle requests.
Really? They have been getting special vehicle requests for 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix? I find that hard to believe. It continues:
Quote:
We feel confident that you can make this exchange with little or no money down and a monthly payment at or possibly lower than you are paying now.
Lower than $0 per month? I'd like to see that deal! But wait, there's more!
Quote:
We understand if you are not ready to purchase or lease a vehicle, but we would like the opportunity to buy your vehicle outright. If you are interested in exchanging your 2006 Grand Prix for any new or pre-owned vehicle in stock, call now!
I smell a bait-and-switch...
Quote:
Due to the high demand for these vehicles and your ownership status, this event will not be advertised to the general public. This is a limited time event.
I would ask if this stuff actually works on people, but know someone who took in their vehicle and ended up trading it in on a new vehicle. It probably doesn't take many bites to get these mail campaigns to pay for themselves.
