I'm starting to hate driving...

I never get into "the game" so it never affected me when I lived in the big city. If someone went all "ape" behind me I just ignored them , if they continued the tirade I simply laughed at them as they truly were the punchline in a poor joke.

LOL!!

I don't usually like driving anymore either. It used to be one of my favorite activities, but there is such a lack of courtesy and common sense among drivers as a whole that it is more of a chore now. Even if you just try to ignore what others are doing, it's hard to ignore a car cutting you off with no signal, forcing you to slam on your brakes. Stuff like that happens all the time here, and usually there is a phone involved. There seems to be a correlation between the number of distracted drivers and the prevalence of "smart" phones. A lot of people just can't put the phone down for 10 minutes, and to them driving is like taking a dump, not really something to devote any real attention to.

My favorite time to drive is on holidays like Thanksgiving when most people stay home or are easy to avoid.

Of course you could be like the guy who was arrested here locally a couple days ago for waving a gun at someone when they didn't drive to his specifications. (thanks for giving responsible gun owners a bad rep in the process..)

Agreed....it's like watching a race!

When I was on local highway for short to medium distance, I usually relax and set cruise control at speed limit of 65 MPH and stay on second right-most lane (I leave the right-most lane for drivers who exit/enter highway).

Only when I was on long trips of 50-60 miles or longer then I drive faster, usually faster than traffic. I will go to left lane to pass then back to right lane for faster drivers to pass, if any.

Whenever someone passes me on the road, I always see their brake lights come on shortly
thereafter; it never fails. I just don't see the point in driving as fast as you can just so you
can wait at the red light longer. You're burning up extra gas and brake pads is all you're doing.

This coincides with what happened to me last night.

It was by far the biggest example of roadway douchebagery I have ever experienced in my life.

While I don't like to coin a certain creed of people but in my city it is always the Latinos. Last night's incident just furthers that point.

4 lane road across a bridge w/ intersections before & after.

I moved to the right lane as the light turned green so avoid having to slow down drastically since traffic just started to move. The right lane was free & clear. I as soon as I start to cross the intersection a car runs the red light and turns right on red illegally(sign saying not to). She turns into my lane infront on me from the perpendicular street.

She then proceeds to stop on the bridge to talk to a small group on the sidewalk, I nearly rear ended her. Gave her the horn and the idiots on the sidewalk tell me to go around like I am inconveniencing them. So I throw it in reverse & attempt to do just that. I then pass her but now it's a race apparently. She tries to cut me off going down the road & up a hill where it cuts to one lane. She did not succeed and I made sure of it. She turned off right away on the first side street. I have never been so furious in my life, luckily I was by myself.

The fact it was night was the only reason she got away with that because during the day that area has heavy traffic. It goes to figure we just passed a LEO too seconds before. Apparently he was too far gone to see any of it.

It was by far the stupidest thing I have seen in a long time. I said the same thing to my wife too when I got home. I bloody hate driving anymore when I have to deal with this.

Most unpleasant time I had was when some chucklehead was in the right lane which was about to end after the light I was waiting at. Now there was also a driveway just before the lane ends, so he could have been turning right. Light changes, traffic goes, and chucklehead is annoyed that I didn't just slam on my brakes to let him in to the line of traffic that is well aware the lane is ending. He gets behind me, and we get up to the next red light.

So I notice in the sideview mirror that chucklehead's neanderthal, Ebonics-speaking passenger has gotten out and walking toward my passenger door. Oh boy. "What's wrong wid you, ?". Well, he continued hurling expletives and started punching my window hard enough I thought he would break it, and as a parting gift decided to fold my folding mirror in.

Light changed, but I let chucklehead go around so I could see his plate, and yes, he realizes I'm on the phone with the PD giving them our location, his vehicle description, and his plate number. I purposely avoided turning into work so I could follow him and not let him know where I worked. Not sure if the police caught up with him, but the dispatcher said the officer was a few blocks away and en route. He turned off on a side street, and I let them know. Probably realized he had a few witnesses who saw him go caveman on my window, leaving lots of nice, greasy knuckle prints on the glass, and that he's gonna have some 'splaining to do.

I love driving even in rush hour traffic. I'm usually in the middle lane, on a three lane highway, and leave about 4-5 car lengths in front of me. My highway run isn't very long and I know that in general the middle lane moves the fastest and with a large buffer in front of me I don't have to do too much stop and go.
Many people, seeing a large gap in front of me, assume that I'm going slower and try to pass me in the left lane or right lane only to abruptly come to a stop, while I'm still going at my leisurely pace. Some of them actually realize what I'm doing and "latch on" behind me. Keep in mind that I only do it in my daily commute during heavy traffic. During normal traffic I just leave extra space in front of me.

What I noticed is that I'm the only one that controls how I feel. If I choose to get angry then the enjoyment of driving is gone. But If I ignore the situation and don’t add fuel to the fire, the offending person often moves on and I can drive without raising my blood pressure.

I have learned a long time ago to ignore boneheads on the road. Put on some good music in the car and pay attention to my own driving. I have too many other things to be concerned about then some morons that can't drive or are rude.

The only thing I worry about is getting rear ended. I find that by going 35 in a 50, I stand a
much better chance of catching the green lights. Other people don't realize that and so
they get mad and mash the pedal to full throttle as they go around me.

If I go 5-10 MPH faster than speed limit in many cities in Orange County, I would get most green light before it change to yellow or red.

Same thing here. The people that program the lights in this town are nuts.

My uncle programmed the lights in my town, so I can't say much, LOL! But if you go 10Km/h over (60Km/h) you can hit all the downtown lights, the ENTIRE street, green. Unless of course a cop/ambulance/fire truck has thrown off the series.

I would probably be one of those people mashing the pedal and going around you. Going 35 in a 50 zone is a little ridiculous in my opinion.
