I'm I the last person to endure a regular mouse?

I need an optical mouse.

I used a cordless optical once. The thing was half the size of a loaf of bread. Too big.

If they make a small one, I'm OK with that. I've got to have the wheel thing to scroll.

How long do batteries last in the cordless ones?

I have a Logitech cordless mouse, but it uses the ball (not optical). NEway, the batteries (2 x AAA) will last 6 months to a year. The computer will show a message on the screen when the batteries are running low. It's no bigger than an average mouse, has a scrolling wheel as well as a customizable extra button on the side you hit with your thumb. I have mine set for a double-click. It comes in very handy sometimes.

All-in-all I'm very happy with it. I'm sure there are newer versions that include the optical feature. I don't know what their battery life would be.

Our company mandates using a roller-ball mouse... they're tired of paying worker's comp. People get shoulder pain from the back and forth action working the mouse.

IntelliMouse Explorer throws out all the old, mechanical technology used in current mice. IntelliMouse Explorer uses a new optical sensor called IntelliEye™. This sensor scans the surface beneath the mouse 1,500 times per second to accurately and crisply track the smallest motion. It works on hundreds of surfaces (i.e., no mouse pad required) and stays precise because there are no moving parts to wear out or stick.

Just ordered another one of these..my last one lasted 1.5 years

I have always been a fan of mice with cords, optical or ball-type. Everyone around me wanted fancy mice. Then we ordered a Logitech laser mouse MX1000 to replace another mouse. Well, that other mouse wasn't broken and I decided to try it. It's a laser model , not optical, with rechargeable batteries built-in.

It took me all of 5 minutes to release myself of corded mice. Simply a great product!

I'm currently using a Logitech MX510 optical mouse, it is excellent. I got it for less than $30 on Amazon when they had it onsale. Right now, they no longer have the MX510, but instead an updated version, though I can't recall the model # at the moment.

The new Razor mouses are excellent as well, though more expensive.

An currently using a Logitech optical mouse. Once I used my little brothers optical mouse it didnt take long to decide that I didnt want that roller ball mouse anymore. Like to keep it corded though.

I had to go with an optical mouse when our 2 year old started using the computer.

Went back to cords, as cordless was a PITA.

i saw the slickest mouse in the world today at my doctors office. its a 3 button cordless optical mouse with a scroll wheel, and the best part is that you hold it in youre hand like hand gun and "aim" it at the computer screen. the mouse does not touch the desk, just hold it and aim it wherever you want and the mouse pointer follows nm the screen.
im probably going to buy one of these (mice?) when the price comes down a bit.

for now, my 3 button laser mouse works good.

cant get any easier than a wirelss gun mouse, unless they found a way to insert a wireless mouse into youre eyeball, then you could just look and click at things.

I hate mice with balls.

We have 1 of 3 computers at work with a ball and I am always having to clean it, I can't stand when they get gritty. I am not crazy about cordless, mainly becase of cost.

I have used trackballs for years. My favorite is Microsofts Trackball Explorer like Skunky describes. I like the finer level of control and the addtional buttons to move between web pages. Once you get used to them you won't want a regular mouse.

I also prefer the split-style keyboard. I can type 60+ words a minute on a one. A standard keyboard slows me down to ~40 or so.

My home PC has cordless optical mouse which I like very much. I use rechargeable batteries and have a couple of regular ones nearby in order to replace them when the rechargeable ones die.

My work laptop has a corded optical mouse - being optical is good since you don't need a flat surface, but the cord is really annoying because it's twisted from being stored in the carrying bag.

My docking station sports a corded non-optical mouse. The cord is not a problem because it's straight but the ball get's dirty and needs to be cleaned periodically.

Cordless for our laptop, corded for our desktops (if possible). Optical all the way baby! I cleaned mouse balls & rollers for over 10 years, I'm glad I get to stop!!
