I'm getting tired of dealing with people

So what is the magic word that black people should use when you are blocking the aisle?

In regards to $100 per hour, I found a guy near my house who's shop looked a little run down but had excellent reviews on Yelp. So far I've been pretty happy for taking my vehicles there for work I didn't have the tools or the time to do. He charges $60 an hour and will either use OEM quality parts, or put on the parts that you bring him that you got on the Internet.

The moral of the story is, there's capital costs involved in a big shiny new shop, and you can't always judge a book by it's cover.

It goes both ways. If someone can't wait for you to take 10 seconds to grab something from the cooler, it's probably not you.

If you are standing there for 10 minutes trying to decide, blocking the aisle, it's you.

We don't know which scenario is in play.

I do know the race of both participants is immaterial.

+1 eljefino

People have been taught to think that every shop is ripping them off.
Since 99% of all car owners have no idea of the skill required to diagnose a problem and R&R the parts, they think that they're being overcharged.
After all, they saw this on TV or read it in some blog.
Those of us who DIY most of our work and only farm out the hard stuff understand the difference.

It might not be 99% of them but it could be as much as 80% of shops are indeed overcharging for the work performed, worse is that many times the work is not even done and the customer is still charged and is none the wiser.

The industry in general is shoddy, shady, crooked, many times incompetent. I DO know how to work on cars although I can't do the really tough jobs I do understand how things work and what it takes to get the job done reasonably, there have been PLENTY of times where shops have tried to [censored] me, or when I have simply done something like leave a note for the tech they have gone off in a huff, because "they don't like notes being left in the car for them to read" ??? What the heck? Getting barked at for checking my fluids after work has been done to make sure things are right before I leave the property....

Too many unprofessional, nasty, and obnoxious people in the business out there, as if you are doing them a favor for being a customer. LOL I told that shop owner (and mechanic) he was fired. I took all my families vehicles which had often times been serviced there (four of them!) and never returned. I want to add that I never questioned his prices, even if they were a bit high, and never second guessed his diagnosis and repair work, even when at times I did question the competence of it. One example I had a CV boot torn and had them replace it. They charged 180$ (VW Golf) and after getting back the car they must not have properly tightened the front wheel hub nut!
I took the car back and explained the problem, they called and said the car was done, I asked what was the problem? Also added that things happened but I am curious. The shop owners wife (service writer would NOT tell me anything at all!) I simply said OK and left . Plenty more examples that I won't bother with....

Why? He's a fool.

Had a good customer that always paid in full on time, didn't question his prices, diagnosis, or work.

This [censored] clown was yelling at me simply because I was checking my fluids after he did some service, and even after I took the high road, stayed calm, and tried to explain the history of the car and why I was concerned he didn't back down from his blustering. Even my mom who was dropping me off heard the exchange and was shocked by it as was another customer. Even still I left without pushing the matter giving him the benefit of the doubt that he was having a bad day and that he would cool his jets and apologize for his
unprofessional behavior, well he never called back and I never went back. The jerk is going to lose many thousands of dollars each year, and the funny part is his wife indicated that "he (her husband) will never learn as they have lost many valuable customers in the past and it will likely put them out of business in a few more years.

Guess what?

The shop is shut down and there is a bank sale notice on the property. I hope he doesn't have a pot left to [censored] in when it is over.

Dude! I completely understand. Being thorough just seems to enrage some. Does the register clerk count your money before it goes into the drawer? If they do it just HAS to mean they do not trust you and are calling you a liar. Kind of seems the same way, but with cars there could be a lot more riding on it than a few dollar bills.

Double check then have another (thoroughly) write off on your work if it is important enough.

Ok now GiveMeAVowel. I posted just after reading yourpart about checking the fluids, presumably in front of them.

Please do not wish ill on another! I think, or it seems that we have all sinned. Whether it was as blatant as a bullet to the head, or whatever goes on with our Armed Forces, being 'lazy' and not checking your blind spot before killing a motorcyclist, badmouthing someone until they turn the gun the other way, or basically any form of abuse.....even sarcasm and killing with kindness.....two headed, cussing them under your breath or behind their back, can we agree it is all bad? If so, then let us try to deny those feelings or moments or whatever you want to call them...anger, grief, hatred, misplaced emotions, whatever...............and pull a 180

No, I left the office and went to the parking lot where the car was parked in advance, the [censored] had to actually come out of the building to see me checking the fluid levels. The weird thing was it seemed to me that he was looking for a confrontation, makes no sense but it seems that is what he wanted. I think he angle was that he was going to bait me into an argument that would cause me to yell back at him causing him to be able to tell me to leave the property and never come back, but he didn't get what he expected, a very understanding patient customer.

Either you trust your mechanic to do the right thing with your car and to charge a fair price that you are willing to pay.

Or you don't, and I would suggest to keep looking for someone you can trust.

I am not surprised the guy blew up on GiveMeAVowel. There's always that one donkey in the repair business who likes taking their problems out on others.

The local OPE guy in town is the same way. He's been in the business for years. Growing up, I remember him being super friendly.. not so much now.

I am sure dealing with the public is to blame for both situations.

When I used to take my car to dealer, I used to always carry a spare key with me. Those days, they used to park the car way out somewhere after completing the repairs. Before paying the money and collecting the key, I used to check their work.

Do you not know what "excuse me" means? What does her biographical information have to do with this story?

What next? Should I omit that it was a female? Maybe just call everyone a human?

No caucasians, males, or females, blacks, arabs, of hispanic origin....

I understand you not wanting to seem as a "racist" or whatever the Pc term is now adays......hate crimes and such?

But, let me tell you. It is written, not word for word, but I do remember reading it more than once, is to not take unto strange women. So you can call it what you want to.

Yes we are all human, but different.

What about dogs? How do you refer to them? That Red Pekinese dog down the street? Is that wrong? Should we inquire of the dog's name and examine it for gender? The status quo does not have to be!

I wouldn't go too far trying to analyze that it's entitlement society, people are getting poorer, etc. Some people are just plain [censored].

In some cultures it's common to haggle over almost anything. In China unless you're shopping at a supermarket or the high-end mall you're expected to haggle over everything. I imagine India, the Middle-East and Africa is the same. It might be cultural baggage people bring with them when they move to the US or Canada.

Does "excuse me" mean different things to you from different varieties of human?

To me the meaning of "Excuse me" varies considerably depending on the context and the tone in which it's said.
