Just so you know, i went to Walmart for some ATF and saw Castrol, one gallon, for $15. Then i saw Supertech "High Mileage" for $3 a quart. Therefore, i am done with Castrol, and all their silly products.

I aim to put Synpower SM 20W-50 in the car to see what it does. I -WAS- considering "GC" (0W-30,) 5W-40, or 5W-50 in the 1994 LHS. Seems Synpower 20W-50 will flow well as a synthetic, and i had considered the "thinness" of 0w30 particularly the 0W, but i just dont need it.

Comments?
 
I just don't like that they're very cryptic in their product data sheets and refuse to give out important info like HTHS at all. Also doesn't help that they don't have any oils available in North America that are Porsche or MB 229.5 AMG approved.
 
Was that on Clearance? At my local Walmart, seems they've phased out all of the Castrol ATF.

Replaced now with Valvoline (blue gallon button) of "Dex/Merc" and MaxLife (Valvoline) Dex/Merc.

Kinda disappointing though, at least the Castrol High Mileage and Castrol "Import" fluid met ATF+3 specs.....

On the flip-side, the Valvoline meets SPII/III for the Kia/Hyundai "imports" - as well as Honda Z1.....which seem to be very big in my area....

But yea, no more black jugs of Castrol Dex/Merc or the white bottles of Castrol Import Multi-Vehicle, or the Castrol High Mileage ATF...

Your "done" with Castrol, but you "aim" to try Synpower???

Well it seems that your not sure what you want. GC is a great oil, granted like many other oils on the market, it may not be what it was, but its still very good. To ponder the thouhgt of a 30w then go to a 50w just like that puzzles me. I may be going the 50w route myslef, but for different reasons.

Valvoline makes good oil, I think all brands are pretty competetive these days. I think just keeping up regular OCI's are the most crucial. Im not a big fan of EDI's, I don't care how good an oil is. But thats just me.
 
I'm not a fan of BP so therefore not a fan of Castrol. I've never used it and doubt I ever will(unless they drop their prices to a point I can't resist).

I've used a few of the ST products. They're working just fine at a good price. I'm a satisfied ST customer.

Cause they are the most expensive conventional. However I think the product itself is fine.
 
I may be leaving Castrol too. When you look at their PDS the lack of information bothers me. I believe Mobil, SOPUS, and Valvoline ( among others ) provide much more complete data standards about their motor oils, but BP seems unwilling to do that. And it is not as if they don't know the information...they do,and it is not proprietary, but won't provide it. I think that is very telling.

That is a big difference in oil weights you are considering 20w-50 >to> 0w-30??
 
Castrol used to be very competitively priced at Walmart for 11.50 a 5Qt jug. Motorcraft was 10.50 but not always available in 5W20 Castrol then jumped to 15.50 probably 3 years ago.
